Question about 1997 Volkswagen Jetta

01 1.8t stalled now make crazy noises and leaking coolant

My girlfriend was learning to drive the 2001 1.8t jettta i bought her witch is a five speed.. and of coarse being her first time in a manual she stalled it. when we started back up it makes the most terible noise and when you go to take off its like something is holding it back and then it makes a loud pop and takes off when i got back to the shop i noticed the passenger side of the motor looked like it was sitting lower than the other side and now it leaks anti freeze?? any one have any thoughts or ideas on this?

Sounds like you have a broken motor mount and the motor is now moving around in the engine compartment because there is less now to hold it in place. That's probably why coolant is leaking- broke a hose somewhere.
Not a real big deal- an honest mechanic should repair the mount for you for a reasonable price- I would guess around 100.00. Don't dump the car for this. It can be fixed!!!!

Keeps stalling while driving. idling real crazy when I first start it.


I would suggest looking for a vacuum leak. Listed for a loud sucking sound with the engine idling. Or use some carburetor cleaner and spray around the engine with it running and listed for the idle RPM to change.

yes you need a new thermostat or there is low coolant. this will affect the mpg because your overheating and thats why its stalling. dont drive until you fix or you will blow your head gasket if it isnt blown already. change thermostate and check coolant.

most likely a blown head gasket between a coolant passage and an oil passage not a cylinder . when coolant gets into a cylinder is when you will see the white smoke and the smell.
