as each car in each country has different systems. OBD1, OBD1.5 , OBD2, JOBD, EOBD. etc. or worse.....
did you look for the 16pin D-shell shaped DLC connector ? at drivers
knee?


so im blocked from being accurate, just that.... alone..
and what engine? 5 engines world wide.... a fact.
2E,3E,4E,5E (new twin cam in 95) or the 1N

in 1995 some engines on some cars were full or 1/2 OBD2 compliant.
that RIGHT, some with 4cyl are OBD1, and V6 OBD2, can prove it.

some cars in 1995, are OBD2 and have no flash codes,
some are compliant to OBD2 with a cable adaptor. 1.5 compliance
the EPA will list this car and non compliant ever if 100% good,
but connector is wrong, or get this, more than 1 meter for steering
so, RTM. the manual never lies, and that manual is , THE FSM.

the light must glow key on, does, ,if not its burned out or stolen
many cars, (vast) the nasty PO stole it so new owners can see truth.

short answer 2: can work (USA ONLY)!!!
i found the OBD2 standard, OBD2 connector by right knee.
i jacked in new scan took key on and its dead.
i open hood, look up and see , EPA sticker and no OBD2 compliant word, bingo a OBD1.5 car, ask for help. (custom cable)

tricky huh, i dont design them i only fix them i fix ECU/s

    and for sureThe OBD II connector is hard to see in the fuse box inside the car. I've seen othe much later models put them in the center consol. there are OBD2 1995 cars. google P0400

i have a 93 toyota camry and going down the road just giving it a little gas it will shut down. it will run great setting their but get to go no more then 20 mph driving me crazy can afford to get a pro but i need to know how to do the check engine light obd two will not do it help going crazy

To do this put a short jumper wire between the terminals TE1 and E1 in the check connector near the fuse box, start the engine and using a strobe timing light set the timing at 8 degrees BTDC. When done remove the jumper.

What is the e1 and te1 terminal

These are terminals in the diagnostic check connector usually located under the hood on pre 1995 models using the OBD1 diagnostic system, when a jumper wire is put in between both terminals and the key is on the check engine light will blink, giving you a two digit code
This code number can then be looked up to determine the fault of the engine control system.

How do you read a computer on an 1986 toyota pickup

Jumper the TE1 terminal to the E1 terminal in the diagnostic connector with the ignition switch on and the check engine light will flash the codes. I think the diagnostic test connector is under the hood on the drivers side near the strut support and air filter box. It has a hinged plastic top about 3/4" x 1-1/2" in size. the terminal labels are inside the cap.

Check engine light

It means that there is a malfunction with the engine control system which is most likely related to the emission control system, the computer stores some diagnostic trouble codes that should be retrieved, the trouble code numbers will help to find where the problem may be. The way to get the trouble codes is by putting a jumper wire in the diagnostic connector under the hood between the terminals TE1 and E1 with the key on the check engine light will blink the code, for example a code 24 would be two blinks followed by four and so on.   1. Make sure the battery voltage is at least 11 volts.
  2. Make sure the throttle valve is fully closed.
  3. Place the gear shift lever in Neutral. Turn all accessories off.
  4. The engine should be at normal operating temperature.
  5. Using a jumper wire, connect terminals TE1 and E1 of the Data Link Connector 1 (DLC1).
  6. Turn the ignition switch ON , but do not start the engine. Read the diagnostic code by the counting the number of flashes of the malfunction indicator lamp.
  7. Codes will flash in numerical order. If no faults are stored, the lamp flashes continuously every 1 / 2 second. This is sometimes called the Normal or System Clear signal.
  8. After the diagnosis check, turn the ignition OFF and remove the jumper wire.
  9. Compare the codes found to the applicable diagnostic code chart. If necessary, refer to the individual component tests in this section. If the component tests are OK, test the wire harness and connectors for shorts, opens and poor connections.

How do I find the problem when the check engine light is on? Auto parts store tell me their macine is for 1996 and later.

You have the On Board Diagnostic 1 system which applied to most vehicles through 1995. In 1996, the OBD 2 system took effect.

So on your Toyota, the way to read out your codes is with the check engine light itself. When you make a connection with a "jumper" wire and turn the ignition key to on (but not start), the check engine light will flash a series of codes. The connection to make is in a small black box under the hood called the "test connector". The box will be labeled "diagnostic" or "diag". The cover flips open and on the inside of the cover there is a chart showing what each test terminal is for. Using a small jumper wire or a paper clip, connect the two terminals TE1 and E1. Now grab paper and pen and sit in the driver's seat and turn the key to on (not start). The check engine light will start flashing the code(s). The two digit code(s) will repeat until you turn off the key.

A sample code of "35" will look like three flashes at about 1 second intervals followed by a 2-3 second pause then 5 flashes at about one second intervals. There will be another 2-3 sec. pause between codes. Write down all the codes. Turn off the key. Remove the jumper wire from the test connector. You can look up the codes on-line or here or a dealer or parts store should be able to tell you the code definition.

most toyotas you have to bridge terminals TE1 and E1 with a jumper wire or paper clip of the diagnostic connector.Found either near the left shock tower (in the engine compartment), next to the master cylinder,or near the fuse/relay box (also in the engine compartment) After you bridge the terminals, you turn the key to the on position, and count the number of flashes of the check engine light. How do you time a toyota 4 runner 3.0?

22r-E, 3vz-E And 3f-E Engines

  1. Warm up the engine, then turn it OFF. Connect a timing light to the engine following the manufacturer_s instructions.
  2. Connect a tachometer to both battery terminals. Connect the tachometer probe to the IG-terminal in the check connector box. The check connector box is located next to the underhood fuse and relay box on trucks and 4Runner's; for Land Cruisers, the check connector box is on the firewall. Use the correct adapter to insure a tight fit on the terminal. Not all tachometers, particularly older ones are electrically compatible with this system. Read instructions for your unit before using.

3. Start the engine and run it at idle. Check the idle speed on the tachometer; adjust it to specification if necessary.

4. At the check connector, use a small jumper wire to short the connector at terminal T or TE1 and terminal E1, of the DLC1 as shown. Special service tool (SST) 09843-18020 or its equivalent can be used for this also.

This jumper will be used repeatedly during diagnostics in later sections. Take the time to make a proper jumper with correct terminals or probes. It's a valuable special tool for very low cost.
  1. Check the idle speed, then check the ignition timing. The 22R-E should read 5° BTDC, 3VZ-FE should read 10° BTDC and the 3F-E should read 7° BTDC. All of these readings are at idle.

  1. Loosen the distributor pinch bolt just enough that the distributor can be turned. Aim the timing light at the marks on the crankshaft pulley (or the drive plate on 3F-E) and slowly turn the distributor until the correct timing mark aligns with the pointer. Tighten the distributor pinch bolt.
  2. Remove the jumper wire or special service tool (SST) from the DLC1.
  3. Check that the ignition timing advances. At idle the 22R-E should read 10°-14° BTDC, 3VZ-FE should read 8° BTDC, and the 3F-E should read 12° BTDC.
  4. Shut the engine OFF and remove the timing light and tachometer leads.

1993 toyota camry turn check engine light off

Open the hood. Locate a small grey box by the firewall, roughly 1.5 x 1.5 inches. It has a cap that will lift up, but it will not come off. Under the cap, located the terminals E1 and Te1. Using a standard paper clip, "jump" E1 and Te1 together. Turn the key on. Obnserve the check engine light; it will flash, pause and flash again. Count the flashes.
Examples: 2 flashes/pause/4 flashes is code "24"
1 flash/pause/5 flashes is code "15"
