Is their a way to test to see if it's bad

  • its420_us May 11, 2010

You can test your fuel pressure, but your symptoms say your catalytic converter is clogged and needs to be replaced.

    A clogged catalytic converter.

If the cars engine wants to run hot- it would in fact be the Catalytic converter. If not- I would go for the pump.

There is a way to check the fuel pump. There is a pressure fitting on the fuel rail to check the pressure of the fuel pump. Any decent repair shop can do this.

This needs to be done by a qualified mechanic.

It can be dangerous to try this yourself.

Check engine light. Scan said cylinder 2 misfire.New plugs & wires, air filter; re-set codes. Ran fine until 55 mph Light came on & could feel misfire. At slower speed runs great.

It dosn't sound like you need an engine ,
The oil leaking is likely valve cover gaskets make sure #2 plug wires is snapped on tight at both ends .
Then change your in line fuel filter if this fixes the engine miss fire issue change the valve cover gaskets .

2000 Lincoln LS fuel pump replaced and filter and reset pump still problems?

Do you know anything about ford, lincoln , mercury FPDM - fuel pump driver moduel . a computer controls the fuel pump speed . If you want to fix cars you really need to learn how too. I would be ashamed to post such stupidity . You never guess , test fuel pressure with a pressure gauge an by looking at scan tool data . An doing electrical testing of the fuel pump electrical circuit an also checking for DTC's diagnostic trouble codes . Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop . DEALER !!!!! I have a 2000 Mercury Sable. runs at speed and under load but idle is rough and stalls frequently while at the lights or just sitting for a short time in drive or park. I changed the plugs, the air and...

There are many possibilities on this. Anything from bad Gas, Bad Ignition Wires, Bad Distributor/IgnitionCoil, Intake Air Leaks, Bad Sensors etc.
It sounds like a malfunctioning Idle Air Control Valve. You can take this off and clean it with Carb Cleaner. Reinstall and check operation. If it helps but does not solve completely the problem: Replace this.
Check your Ignition Wires and Distributor/Ignition Coil.
The Idle Control Valve is available at
(no-I don't work for either store/company)
Autozone Part #TV281 for around $51.
Advance Auto Part #50523 for around $52.
