1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Died while driving home

The jeep died while driving i was accelerating and then the pedal dropped nothing. i had brakes but then the gas light, check gages light, and check engine light came on. it has about 3/4 tank of gas. i checked all the fuel lines and replaced the fuel pump and it still wont start. any ideas what could be the problem?? thanks I took the jeep to the dealership and they diagnosed the problem as the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) was bad. I replaced the PCM and the jeep is still dieing out and not starting. I did notice that the gages (oil pressure, temerature and gas gage will not work when I turn the key forward. After some time the jeep starts up. I also noticed that the Fuel Pump will not hum when it dies and I can not start it.

Check the fuel pump fuse/relay, could be just bad enough to cause an intermittent start/no start. and check fuel pressure, spark and the crank position sensor.

Obviously the sensor is at the back of the container. When you brake, the liquid will move to the front of the container making the sensor think there's less fluid, and when you accelerate the liquid moves to the back of the container making the sensor think there's more fluid.

Check your throtle postition sensor. It monitors what postion the throtle is at and sends that info to the ecm. It will go bad and cause that problem.

OK that's different...First, you will need to check the battery for 12v. (no testing can be done without proper voltage there) Lights working does not tell you this.
You will need to do a code check before replacing any parts. Without testing there are numerous possible causes and it will cost you $$$ to replace all of them before "hitting" on the right solution. (you just found that out by replacing the pump.) There are other individual component tests you can do using a digital volt/ohmeter.
Offhand, the first place I'd check is the crankshaft position sensor. They are notorious for this kind of failure BUT don't replace it till you test it! post back with any questions and results you get. (in other words, we are not finished yet!!)

TRY CHECKING THE WIRE CONNECTORS ON THE PCM WHICH IS LOCATED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FIREWALL. IT HAS THREE LARGE MULTI-WIRE CONNECTORS HELD IN PLACE BY THREE BOLTS. WIGGLE THE CONNECTORS WHILE TIGHTENING THE BOLTS CAREFULLY SO AS NOT TO BREAK THE FRAGILE PLASTIC ENDS. HOPE THIS SOLVES THE PROBLEM. KEEP ME POSTED PLEASE. THANKS FOR USING FIX-YA. GOOD LUCK
