1997 grand prix gtp car stalls

My grand prix will start run for a few seconds then die, i replaced the fuel pump, but after putting it on a fuel tester, it says that the car itself is starving for fuel, but i can't seem to find out where from...could it be a bigger problem? The car just got a new engine in it after it blew up, it ran fine until i went to the gas station and filled it with gas, after driving with it while i ran around, it stalled and now only runs for a little while, then stops running

The problem started when you filled it with gas, you say. Is it a carburetor-equipped engine? Well, a diagnostice article pointing out the cause of your car's stalling under such described circumstances is linked here:

This should help. Brad

The car some times does not start rightaway, some time stalls in the street and I wait a wile then starts

The L67 GTP has a two speed fuel pump. There are two relays that control the fuel pump via the PCM module. The fuel pump relay and fuel pump hi-speed relay. Tied into the hi-speed relay is a fuel pump resistor that may go bad.

Symptoms vary but primarily the engine will start but die in a matter of seconds due to insufficient fuel pressure.

Here is an easy method to bypass the fuel pump resistor which puts the fuel pump in the high speed mode:

Keep in mind this is a temporary fix and your fuel pump will be running in hi-speed all the time, which can lead to premature failure - and another component you'll need to replace. You can purchase the resistor here.

Hope this helps!

97 grand prix gtp starts then immediatly dies

If you have a GTP these engines use a hi output fuel pump. they use a fuel pump resistor located under the battery tray (look up from under the car) This resistor lowers the voltage to the fuel fump when not in boost mode. because of its locatoin it is prone to corrosion. if you bypass the wires and the engine starts and stays running replace the resistor

1997 pontiac grand prix with major issues

check all fuses for turn signal and brake lights.change fuel filter . first. do a little tune up change spark plugs and wires . if changing fuel filter dont help. have fuel pressure check first before buying a new fuel pump .they run after taxes 400.00 dollars. your fuel pressure should be 41 to 47 psi. replace fuel pump relay also.

My GTP runs 15 mins and looses fuel pressure.. Fuel pump is new

Heres what you need to do to start with. If you are mechanically inclined, when it stalls, check for spark on the #1 cylinder. If you have no spark there, it is likely the CPS or Crankshaft Position Sensor has gone bad, a common issue, and will need to be replaced.

If you need any further help, there is an online Grand Prix community you can check out at http://www.grandprixforums.net. Sign up there and post up your issue and you will get some more input.
