Question about 1995 Toyota Land Cruiser

1 Answer

Land Cruiser makes loud noise when traveling 50mph or higher and accelerator depressed

My 1995 Toyota Land Cruiser has 210k miles and generally runs very well. Recently, however, it has making a lot of noise when I'm traveling 50 mph or higher. The noise seems to be coming from underneath the front-center of the car. It's especially loud when the accelerator is depressed -- it almost disappears, actually, when you take your foot off the gas. I wonder if it's the transmission (hope not). It shifts well. Or could it be a bearing? Or something else? I bought the car with 177k and it's been great except for the recent noise. Thanks, Kirk

I have a 2005 land cruiser. It has a slow acceleration and begins to vibrate from underneath as the acceleration increases. Can you advise please? Thanks

do you hear a loud hissing sound when you take off?
Could be the cat converter.

if not that, I've seen CV axles that caused poor take off and vibration.

let me know what you find.

I have a 1997 landcruiser, when driveing at 40 to 50mph a vibration appers when accelerating up to 70mph it gets worse take foot of accelerater goin down hill thers is no noise or vibration

Check your universal joints in the drive shaft. When you remove your foot fromt the accelerator you are no longer applying power to the rear wheels and in turn there is no load on the drive shaft. When you accelerate below 40mph, there isn't enough centrifugal force to cause the driveshaft to wobble, but once you go above 40mph, it begins to show slop.

Another thing to check is your wheel bearings.

I have a major tapping noise from a 3lt diesel turbo toyota surf .constant loud tapping ,quietens with oil pick up a little. not a knocking just a tapping

lifters noisy, lots of miles on engine?as oil pressure gets higher and engine warms up(everything expands a little and quietens a little)it gets better, try fresh oil thats thicker for worn engines, and or check tappets(valve adjustment)if its applicable to this engine

Loud whistling noise when travelling at higher speeds (ie above 50mph)

I had a problem with a whistling car after 50 mph and it turned out to be the front window gasket. I put silicone on the trim and problem solved.

Need tire size for 1995 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado

Big tires:

1. Hard time for your drive train (clutch, cv joint, tranny, diff gears) , power steering, brakes
2. Slow acceleration
3. possible fender damage
4. turning radius problem
5. increase body roll and instability
Advantages:
1. good ground clearance
2. softer ride
3. Enhanced off-road ability

tires your planning to buy can fit into your existing rims.
My personal opinion is for you to go for the bigger tires!
