Question about 1999 Honda CR-V

99 cr-v door locks have mind of their own

I've noticed the door locks on my '99 cr-v ex model automatically lock themselves. The car has remote keyless entry. This happens sporadically with no apparent pattern or cause. I had the dealer check the system but he said everything was fine. The owners manual says nothing about auto door locking. I did notice that if the car is locked, and I unlock it with the remote but do not open a door within about 30 seconds, the doors lock. I guess I can accept that as an undocumented security feature. But...this isn???t the only time it happens. I???ve tried other patterns of locking/unlocking but have not duplicated the problem. This is becoming increasingly annoying. Anyone else having a similar problem? Thanks. Had her window down thank God. Her doors all locked when she shut the door. Now her drivers door will not open. I tried to do everything I know to get the door open. No luck yet. The bars to the locks and door handels work and seem to move when you try to open the door or un-lock it. Nothing door won't open. I tried to take the door panel apart but no luck there. I need Help. Email me if you have HELP for me thanks. bryan@myskycom.com

Hi Bryan, I had a similar problem with my 97CRV.The problem is with the driver''s door-switch.It forms a deposit that prevents electrical contact. So when you unlock the door and open it ,the keyless remote system still ''thinks'' you've not opened it.It re-locks the doors automatically as it was designed to do if the doors were unlocked but not opened. Unscrewing the switch and wiping off the deposits will surely fix the problem.

Hello bryon.. the best and cheapest way to start is to replace the battery in the key fob (remote), then lock and unlock the vehicle remotely 5-7 times, then monitor for further malfunction...if so........was vehicle in gear when doors lock? is it locking while braking? are there any children pushing buttons? get back to me if this doesnt help...marty

Doors lock themselves for no apparent reason

I would check the battery in your car remote . I had the same issue where if the remote was within 50-70 feet from the car my doors would lock or unlock and sometimes the remote start would turn the car on randomly. The battery was my cure.

I have a 99 chevy tahoe that will not lock the doors unless I use the keychain remote or puch each lock down, same with unlocking. The lock button on both the driveside and passenger side do not work. Also...

With regards to the lock bittons on the driver and passenger side its the button themselves aka switch(s) that is your culprit. Why because the remote is getting the motor to open and close them . The only thing that doesn't is the buttons /switches themselves .
Now the rear latch a little different animal. Either the locking mechanism on the door itself is defective or the motor ( the thing you hear clicking) is weak.
This one your gonna need a shop manual for to do the correct testing. But being that te remote will not move it and neither will the manual push button I would lean towards the locking mechanism on the hatch/door its self. Use the shop manual its not that bad of a fix if you have a little patience.

My Honda CR-V EX 2005 doors lock by themselves. Occasionally, after you unlock it with the remote key, it locks itself before you can get in. It also happens sometimes when I unlock the car, then open the...

They all do it, its part of the security system that all the doors lock after a minute or so from unlocking if you don't open the driver's door.
It prevents you from accidentally unlocking the car door while walking away and clicking the remote in your pocket, the car re-locks on its own.
If you open with the remote then open only the rear door, the other doors all lock and when you close the rear the alarm goes off.
What fun we have!
