1999 mercury cougar wont start

When i try to start the car it makes a clicking noise and i hear a weird noise in the dash on the drivers side. it is acting like the battery is dead but when i try to jump it makes the same clicking noise. then i take the cables off and i have no power at all. tried to put a charge on it and nothing. also when you are trying to jump it when you turn the ignition the gauges peg out and all of the lights flicker in the dash and the dome light flickers too. the car started just fine 4 other times today. when i went to move it from the street to the driveway nothing happened but the weird noises.

It sounds like your "starter solenoid" has went bad.

Clicking usually sounds like a starter sometiimes when they start going bad it gets stuck that's why u only hear clicking, try tapping it with a steel bar or something it worked for me wen my car was doing that, and what u mentioned about the battery it might be that is not holding charge even if u try jump starting it

I had this problem with the cougar..fuel pump shut off was fine...i cleaned the throttle body with throttle cleaner.. still not crankin,,.. iwas getting fire to my plugs and wires..i had replaced the fuel pump a year before so i knew that wasnt it..long to short.. I disconnected BOTH positive and negative connections on battery... so i could reset the ecm..Electronic control module.. while it was disconnected i replaced the fuel filter underneath the car just in case it might hve benn clogged.. lowered car down connected battery.. and vrruuuumm she started.. My assumption was that i neede too reset the ecm sometimes they trip,, the only way is by disconectin the batry..

Car wont turn over

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome to the site. You need to check your ignition fuse first. If you have no inside lights, check your battery and the wires. Make sure the terminals are cleaned as well as the post on the battery. Inspect all the wires and test them for current. If you have power or you are hearing a clicking noise, check your starter or starter solenoid.

Noise when making a slow speed tight turn. 1999 mercury cougar already replaced right front wheel bearing

noises during slow tight turns are usually CV joints going bad. A way to check, is to jack up one front wheel, set the parking brake, and put the car in drive without pressing the gas. Turn the wheel to both extremes, and listen for the noise. Repeat with the other front wheel (set the first one back down) and listen. Whichever makes the noise, is the side you need to change.

Brake lights wont turn off

dont worry all you need to do is just change the 2 sensors found onlong top side of the break peddle. it be cheaper if you could get it from the junkyard from even a mecury contour or mystic, both cars have all the same parts as the cougar , try it i did.
