98 Voyager whining sound, dash off & on, RPM's high, trouble shifting to second

I have a 98 Plymouth Voyager that acquired a whining sound from the engine or the transmission about an hour into a two hour trip. The dash cut off & on,the RPM's went up & the van functioned as though it had a problem changing gears from first to second. Could someone please tell ALL the possible problems it could be?

Air bag light just came on my '98 plymouth voyager. where is it located & how can I turn it off?

Airbag is located in center steer column cover and under upper dash area on passengers side. Only way to shut light out is have service look at it. It is a safety feature without options.

I have a 1997 Plymouth Voyager with the 3.3L engine and the 3 spd w/overdrive automatic transmission. Until yesterday the trans gave no signs of possible repair needed. Now the van will not want to go into...

It is possible to be a minor fix. But you may want to get on it asap to avoid being a major fix. Talk to the Commercial parts pro at your nearby auto parts store, for a shop that he ( cough, cough, they are supposed to be impatial) recommends/knows or Would take his car to.
