Question about 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix

1 Answer

2001 Grand Prix SE tranny trouble.

On my 2001 grand prix se, 3.1 liter motor, the transmission is bumby. It starts sort of slipping and jerking when accelerating. What is the best and cheapest solution to this problem?

You can't use those two words in the same sentence when talking about transmissions. Best is new (rarely done) next is a rebuild (most times if from a good reliable shop, good but not cheap) then there is the used unit from a scrapyard..cheaper than either, but if it doesn't work, you get to pay r&r as many times as it takes, even if the yard guarantees it. (only way I'd do that is if I owned another identical car that I had driven and knew for sure the unit was good.

The forward clutches are going bad is the most likely problem. To repair the trans should be rebuilt.

I am not sure which engine you have on your 202 Grand Prix, but if you have the most common 3800 V6 this is where it should be. Look at the back of the engine compartment just to the left of the plastic master cylinder resevoir.
Here is a picture you can look at...

Trouble with alarm of Pontiac Grand Prix SE

I will assume your alarm system is factory installed, which makes it a passive system. This being said there has to be a "valet" switch for the alarm system. it will be one of two places, first check the obvious and look at the dash panel under the steering wheel, there might be a pushbutton kill switch there, or a rocker switch of sorts. If no luck there, the blinking status light that is on your dashboard might be the switch itself. Try "GENTLY" pushing it in. if it does push, the red light will start to double blink, this is normal. If neither of these solve it, call yoru local dealer and ask them where the switch is. Good Luck

The SE and LE indicate opinions on the cars. Most of the parts will interchange. When doing engine changes, the best way is to swap the ECM also.
