Question about 1996 Isuzu Rodeo

1 Answer

Not starting I have a 96 rodeo, 3.2 motor, no codes actiave or inactiave, no blown fuses, ones that i can see, or find. i have spark, i have fuel and pressure, the motor cranks over, but will not run. battery plenty of juice & amps, took the alarm out of the pic, even though you cant even crank it if the alarm is engaged. I am running out of solutions for this, i have no idea what is stopping it from fireing up. it might of had a head gasket going when i got it, but no over heating, no misfires, no mixing of fluids. was top end knocking on one cyl when i shut it off after i got home, but it was sitting for a year or so. then wouldnt start back up. even a blown hwad gasket would let a motor start. paid 5 for it and put 3 in it when fixing the leaks, most of that in tires. I fix cars for a job, this thing is making me look stupid. is there something i have overlooked? i need a bit of help please

The PCM sees dead spark so cuts all fueL? sure.
(it will, if it does?, scan it yet? cranking, that be first.)
The PCM can cut fuel for many reasons.

what matters most (1st) is 12vdc to the pump actual cranking, does it have 11vdc at least>?

Cranks no start, have fire to plugs. I have reading all this stuff on this site and fhave not found a solution. does anybody here know anything that actually works? 2000 Isuzu Rodeo 3.2 auto 4x4, tryi

Take this one step at a time:
(a) Does the vehicle start when you spray Starting Fluid into the Intake Air Hose?
If it does, then you need to figure out WHY it is not getting fuel. Possibilities are Clogged Fuel Filter, Bad Fuel Pump, Bad Crankshaft Sensor, Blown Fuel Pump Fuse or other Fuses too...
(b) Do you have a NOIDS Light to test the Fuel Injectors? This will also help you narrow down the troubleshooting

Starter turns but does not start

what year car, what model and sub model and what engine.
lots of honda's from 1969(70'market) which one.?

no start, can be one of 3 basic things (generic answer ASE)
lost electric power to fuel or spark systems (Blown fuse?)
1: lost of compression 1 more more cylinders
2: lost spark 1 or more spark plugs.
3: bad fueling , too lean or too rich.

if you have spark times number of cylinders
then try test fuel, if test fuel runs car for 3 seconds.
then jump on why the fueling is dead.

I have a 96 cavy z24 battery died but was able to get car home

you may have blown a fuse in a process of remove and install the alternator ( the car was running before that right? )
so check all your fuses and fusible links coming from the starter.
check for spark at spark plugs
check for fuel pressure
these will help you to issolate problems

I just went to get my starter from my isuzu rodeo bench tested at autozone. are the test they do there very accurate? it passed 4 times but my car will not start at all

If you seen and heard the starter run, rotate, and make noise on the bench at Autozone then your problem is not with the starter. There test they do on it is accurate. Look to see if you are getting fuel or spark when you turn the motor over, pull any spark plug wire out and stick any screwdriver in the boot and then touch the metal shaft to a metal part in your motor. Have a friend crank the engine and see if it "sparks" If it sparks then your electrical is good. Next, pull your fuel filter hose off and have a friend crank the ignition and see if fuel keeps flowing out the hose when the vehicle attempts to start. If you see no fuel then you should look at replacing the fuel pump. Before you do anything, check all your fuses with a fuse tester that are located under the drivers side steering wheel, pull them out "one by one" and make sure they light up. If one fuse is out it could prevent your car from starting up

One place to start,  Spark to ignition and power fuel are two different sources.  Unless they both work off the same fuse.  The fuel pump needs power to run the fuel pump, Ignition needs spark to fire the engine. Check your fuses because in my opinion it is odd that they both went out at same time.  Good Luck
