Question about 1997 Saturn SL
When the engine of my 1997 Saturn SL1 gets hotter, it seems to lose power. It's not an issue when I just start driving it, but as I go, it starts to lose power. VERY heavy to take off. I have to put the pedal to the floor just to get some movement. The issue goes on and off. One second it will be working beautifully, the next it'll be dieing. The odd thing is, disconnecting the throttle position sensor fixes the issue. I replaced that and the issue still continues. I have it disconnected as a temporary fix. Thanks. I have a 97 saturn sc2. My problem is similar. As soon as the car gets a little hot it starts loosing power. I have to floor it in order to give it a little boost but the car has a hard time and shutters. Other times like when I start the car up and drive, it runs fine. I have taken it it mechanic after mechanic and no one can seem to figure out what the problem is.
Hmmm, as to on-again, off-again engine power, it may be the electrical connector that runs from the electronic control unit. Read this diagnostic article, as it seems similar to your situation:
You might also want to read up on engine overheating since you say you seem to have that:
Hope this helps!
