A periodic miss at steady speeds

Checked the coils and they are fine, sparks ate aok
do i have a timing issue ?
do i have either a timing chain or a timing belt?

I would say either spark plugs or spark plug wires

Have a 85 Honda 250r atc it was running fine then I got a lil miss,so I changed the spark plug thinking that was it but wasn't it runs good but trying 2 keep a steady speed it misses what is that?


could be a coil problem or an ignition module problem
if it has a distributor , it could be worn bushes in the distributor causing and erratic spark

Intermittent miss at idle and steady speeds


You need to hook up a computer scanner to the engine to find out what the fault code is [indication of what is causing the miss]. The CHECK ENGINE lamp lights up when a fault code is detected and set in the computer's memory. ALWAYS replace all the spark plugs on a Ford when there is a miss. Those "alleged" 100,000 mile spark plugs are really only good for about 60,000 to 65,000 miles. Using them longer than 60,000 miles causes the ignition coils to overheat [from trying to fire the huge gaps on those worn out spark plugs] & fail. Hopefully, you will get a fault code to tell you which cylinder is the problem. When you disconnect the battery, you give the PCM [engine computer] a case of amnesia, and it forgets the fault codes it has stored in it's memory. That's a foolish move, as it only removes the info a "real" mechanic needs to solve the problem. Use only Motorcraft, NGK or Denso spark plugs. Other brands won't last in a Ford product.

My 2001 saturn sc1 is jerking when I accelerate from a complete stop or when Im gaining speed then stop when I drive a steady speed


Usually a sign of a miss-fire under load.
Common causes include spark plugs, coil, plug wires, injectors, or other things.
Is the check engine light on ?

Car running on three cylinders with good spark.


unplug the spark plug wires from the coil pack one at a time and see if the engine speed changes. you will also be able to see/hear the spark each time you do that. if you see/hear one that doesn't effect the motor you likely have a failed or failing coil pack.
might be a good idea to wear some type of rubber gloves when you do that so you don't get "zapped".

1997 Buick will not start


coil pack played out, or timing chain jumped. Use a timing light to see if you have spark. If you haven't, change the coil pack. If you have spark, then check the timing chain. When you aim your timing light at the timing mark, if it's jumping all over the place, you need a timing chain. If that all checks out, you may have a fuel problem. See if you can hear the fuel pump running for a few seconds when you turn the key to the "on" position. If you can hear it, check and change the fuel filter. Let me know how it goes.

Engine miss


if you have only one cylinder getting that excessive fuel it indicates that the computer thinks that that cylinder is not sparking and thinks no fuel is the proble. this is due to a timing issue. even though you replace the injector which was most likely not the problem to begin with. in order to get spark the coil has to energize you more than likely have a bad coil pack.replace the coil and your miss will no longer exist.

1994 bonneville misses especially at speed and acellerating


good chance you may have a bad coil, you can check by disconnecting the plug wires at the coil to see if your getting any spark, if your not seeing any spark when car is running your coil is bad. be sure to do disconnect the plug wire when engine is not running and key is off!
New coils run around $26.00 easy to change out, you only need a nut driver, 2 small bolts.

98 Lincoln TC,Cold starts fine ,runs good until warm, then shuts off. No codes,Cranks ok, have spark, PATS ok. No fuel pressure, cant hear fuel pump prime,New Fuel relay. jumped fuel pump - works. I do not hear fuel pump prime up, do not have fuel gauge, but pressing on valve in fuel rail- no pressurized fuel. Fuel regulator seems ok, not leaking / vacuum line dry as a bone. If I let it set for 15 min , it will start up again, but for a few minutes then dies out. If I let it set overnight it starts up perfectly and runs until operating temp is reached then stalls/stumbles, and shuts down. Vacuum is good while cranking, even with no start, Checked Inertia switch in trunk, it is not tripped. I have seen Ford TSB summaries' that mention issues like this , but I am not able to see to description. A point to add, the MAF sensor was cleaned, then I decided to replace it and did not make a difference. I do not have any stored codes, and the PATS is working fine, typical 2 second flash from and once key is inserted a 3 second steady light, then disappears. I have seen the TSB mentioning C103 Connector, it looks fine, I swapped out fuel pump relay with ac relay, still no difference.mention of wires around battery, do not know where to start. in dash service engine light and odometer is normal, seen other posts the say they only have lines, but mine is ok. the start of all of this , I washed engine with regular garden hose, ( not using pressure washer).also in the mean time, rear window defroster stopped working as well, can not say for same reason, but a mention.My problem started after washing engine. this is one of four Panther platform vehicles I owned with exact 4.6l w code engine, which I rinced down before. The only sensor I can think of is Oil pressure , or a corroded wire
