Slight Whining noise?

My 2005 Dodge Dakota 4x4 has a slight noise that is not engine related. The Whine is very slight and is evident most at about 40 mph and decreases at higher speeds. The noise seems to be in the front of the vehicel?

Why did my 2005 dodge dakota 4x4 transmission suddenly stop pulling while I was driving. It will not do nothing in any gear.

Unless you know a whole lot about diagnosing and rebuilding transmissions, you need to get it to a qualified transmission shop. From your description, the only external checks are to see if the driveshafts are securely installed, and see if there is any evidence of excessive transmission fluid leaks.

Here's a video on the same model/make with something that started as a noise. Turns out there are two different axles with the difference being the locking ring on the inboard end. Dodge Dakota Front Axle Noise

How to stop the whining noise in Chrysler 300 2004 engine while on

Sounds like you have a transmission pump issue, you will need to take it to a tranny shop to diagnose if that is the problem if in drive it does not whine.

Whine in overdrive 5R55S

Update: Differential shop says all components appear to be in good condition, ring and pinion pattern good, no metal in fluid. Slight noise audible, apparently not differential in origin.

Hi my c1 has started to make a whining sound (bit like a dog whine) the last couple of days. It tends to get louder and is intermittent, it starts when the engine is fired up (no probs starting engine)...

Have your drive belt replaced (sometimes called the auxiliary or serpentine belt) when it slips it creates a screeching noise and it's also a sign that it's going to fail (snap).
These can run the alternator and power steering so you should change it as a preventative measure.

I have a 2001 Dakota Sport ex-cab 4x4 3.9 5 speed with 3.55 gears. I get about 15 mpg around town. About rite? pcm # is 56040232 ac. Is this the latest and greatist software or flash code? Looking to find...

unfortunialy 15 to 17 is about right. You can improve gas millage by adding a K&N filter also by putting flow master 50 series has a slight rummble but much more quite the 30 or 40 series. It will improve the **** power as well you will only see about 1.5 to 1.9 mpg gain how ever. BEST OF LUCK P.S. not sure on the code someone else im sure will know the answer on here though.

2005 Dodge Dakota - quad - 4x4 - v8 - power steering is whining - has fluid - heard the pump wasn't large enough to keep the fluid running in the lines - have you heard this and where is the power steering...

No, the pump is engineered to match the system. You state it has fluid. Is it at the right level when not running? If it is too low, It will pump air and aerate the oil, which causes the noise. To get the air out the vehicle just has to sit so the air and oil can seperate. If the oil is aerated it will appear white-ish.

Whining from engine when in gear

Just a thought- remove the oil filler cap when the whine is present - (this checks if PCV valve is faulty, causing high crankcase vacuum, which in turn causes a whistling/whine noise as air leaks past engine oil seals). Worth a check.

Try listening with a short piece of hose pipe to locate immediate area/source of noise.
