Question about 2005 Mazda 3

Mpg not right

I have a 2005 mazda 3 sp 2.3 L. I have had no troubles before with my gas gauge, but recently the past month now im not getting the correct gas mileage. I put 3/4 of a tank in 2 days ago and i went 53 miles in 2 days and i have 1/2 a tank now, I do not beat on my car at all and have not been stuck in any traffic.

any ideas?

i undertand that but im not getting any good gas mileage period. I went on a trip to alabama in AUG 08' and blew the cylinder and had all new plugs wires and cylinders put in when I was there, all had been fine since until now. at that time i got 350 miles for a full tank. now i cant even go around town 4 times and im losing 1/4 to 1/2 tank every time. we have no construction going on and no traffic and i have only gone 53 miles on 3/4 tank and my gas is half gone. any ideas what could be making this happen? no engine light has come on, my tires are perfect air wise. i had a new air filter put in last summer and its not dirty

how many gallons where used for miles driven? is the check engine light on? are the tires at at least 34 PSI? what is the exact mileage u are getting on average? u are very vague on these facts. want to give u an answer, but can't based on this type of info.

it is not what the gauge says (they are very often very inacurate) but how many gallons u used. MPG= Miles Per Gallon.

You could have a bad O2 sensor which is either giving to much or to little oxygen to your fuel system, also you could check your spark plugs and see if they are fowled. your car could be running very lean which means your using more gas then your suppose to. normally if your running lean and are used to cars you can smell the excess fuel in the air. Try checking some of these things and see if anything is wrong.

I have a 2005 kia sorento lx and have been have problems with really poor fuel consumption. I'm losing about 80 miles to the tank. I had just changed the spark plugs and gotten a tune up

the fuel sender unit needs replacing as is reading lower than what is actually in tank from whay you've said so far, if your basing your MPG on the gauge reading it will be way out , best way to check MPG fill tank, drive for say 50 miles,, refill tank and see how much you have replaced, that will be your MPG

Hybrid gets lower mpg when city driving and keeping speed at 45 moh or less.

I don't have a solution, only the same problem. I bought the MKZ Hybrid in February and have driven almost 1700 miles. I am good at watching the gauges and ensuring good fuel economy. But I have yet to get any thing above 32.6 mpg. Now it ranks at up to 36 on the highway and up to 41 around town. OK, I get the "UP to" but I bought a Prius and right off the bat, I was getting what the rankings were. It took me forever to get it past 24 mpg. Then just this past weekend the check engine light came on and stayed on. I have an appt to drop it off tomorrow.

Anyone else have this car and are you getting any better gas mileage???

I have a 2005 Mercury Sable that suppose to have a 18 gallon gas talk, but I can only get at most, 13 gallons of gas in it and it never will fill up. I have never been able to fill the gas tank up in full,...

With the gas gauge not working right, you have probably never let it get completely empty. And as far as the gas gauge goes, it's probably the fuel level switch. you can not purchase these separate from the sending unit. It would be a $500.00 + I would live with it untill the pump goes out, because this is part of the sending unit also.
