1999 Blazer Starter

When starting it sounds like when you accidentally turn the key when it is already on and sometimes ticks. The more i turn off and turn on in one day it gets worse. when it sits for a day or a few hours it doesn't do it. happened after i got my oil changed. i also have a remote starter that works on and off but hasn't been used in over 2 years.

can anyone help!

It sounds like it's time for a rebuilt starter, Note there is no such thing as a new starter so save some money and buy one that says rebuilt.
Look in the yellow pages on line where you live and look under automotive and search for Starter rebuilt shop and most of the time they do Alternator to.
OK back to your question, as time goes on and the starting of the engine the bearing to the start gears wear out. It happens and when it does the things that is happening to your starter is the start of a Starter failure.
Be thankful that you know it's time to have it changed, when it goes you'll have no warning and you may be stranded in some parking lot and having to get it towed to a garage and have them buy the starter which they most like would have bought it from a place where you can buy it for the same price while they charge you the going rate on top of the labour at $85.00 and hour.
Good luck and hope this helps

I'm here in Toronto Canada and the price here for a rebuilt with the core exchange is $125.00 and have them install it was $200.00. That's a shop that rebuild's the starters and and offers to installs them too. Just have to call in advance to have it done, I get my alternators from there too and so far the replacement has over 235,000 miles on it. Guess i better get an other one soon LOL.

Good luck and just shop around your area.

Problem with starter or flywheel. Worn or missing gear teeth in starter or flywheel. Starter not engaging correctly. The alarm does not work correctly for any of these reasons.

You will have to check with your local auto parts stores. Call or check on-line, check Autozone, Advance Autoparts, NAPA, Pepboys etc. See who gots the starter cheaper. If after replacing the starter you still have a problem you have a damaged flywheel. You will have to talk to a mechanic, they'll probably get a flywheel from the junk yard. Its kind of a big job since the transmission will have to be removed. For now just replace the starter, get a new one or rebuilt from the auto parts store not the junk yard. A rebuilt one will have a core price, when you return the damaged part you'll get some money back. Hopes this helps because I don't know how much is expensive to you.

try turning the key over to the start position. then take a long screwdriver and touch it across the terminals on the starter. this should start your vehicle. if the sarter doesnt turn when you do this, then you have the starter locked up,and yo will have to take it off and install some shims under the bolts.if the starter is trying to turn and the lywheel isnt urning...then you have a locked up engine.

Possibly the switch at the bottom of the steering column, that the rod pulls on. May be loose, or worn out.

This is an intermitent problem, sometimes when we try to start our 1999 blazer it will not start. specifically nothing happens when you turn the key. If we wait a while it will start with no problem.

It sounds like the ignation module or crank sensor. Also check the spark when it does not start. If you see the spark then the problem is gas..check fuel pump.

Sounds like the bendix is stuck in the starter. When this happens, the starter energizes and turns, but the gear does not kick out to make contact with the flywheel. Have someone tap on the starter while cranking the engine.

First of all make sure all your battery connections are Clean and Tight. If they are and all your dash lights come on and its not starting But its cranking over Your anti theft alarm may have gotten activated. You may have to leave your Key in the On position for 20 minutes to reset the alarm. Not cranking just in the on position, Now if its not Cranking and your hearing a clicking sound it may be your starter. I have sometimes tapped on the stater with a deadblow hammer and had someone crank it over Making sure your in park foot on brake and being EXTREMLY Carefull that you are not going to run someone over. If that don't get you going Get back to me we can do some more trouble shooting. Get that thing going for you. Thanks, Bear001
