What causes engine misfires to stay after new plugs and coil packs?

Try swapping the coil packs around - like swap #1 with #2, and swap #6 with #5, see if the misfires MOVE with the coil packs swapped to the new cylinders or if they stay with the cylinders. If they move with the coil packs, the new coil packs are bad. If they stay with the cylinders, there's a problem with those cylinders. You DID replace that camshaft sensor, right?

Have you checked your #1 and #6 injectors?

I have a 1989 bmw 325i it started to misfire,i changed the distributer cap and rotor and it did nothing,my check engine light comes on,when i switch gears it misfires

Hello! take the vehicle to any auto parts store and have them scan the On Board Diagnostics (OBDI) To determine the trouble code...With that code they will tell you the component or components causing the misfire...

2002 ford E 250 misfires

Usually it's a coil pack. There's one located on the top of each spark plug and held in with a 7mm bolt/screw. #1 is the one I've replaced the most, but that's just guessing from here. Have it scanned somewhere for free and that'll tell you which cylinder. Could be just a bad plug. Difference is about $3 for the plug, and about $75 for the coil.

Engine misfires on #1 cyl. Code P0301. plug, fuel

Then the coil is bad. Even if the specs were ok, which they r not, the cracked case means its junk.

Car misfire BMW 318i automatic 2002 model

can you tell which cylinder is affected? If a spark plug gap is to wide, the coil may have trouble creating a hot enough spark to jump it. Check your plugs for proper gaps befor looking to the coil. Good Luck _Ned_

Severe Misfire

It sounds like one of your coil packs is going bad. The scan should have said which cylinder had the misfire.

1996 328i bmw sometimes loses power and won't pass smog test

Ok you will have to have it scanned. It probably has cylinder misfire codes and random cylnder misfires. You could need spark plugs and or coils. The scan will tell you exactly which cylinder is missing. That will cure your problem and remember to change your oil and filter right before you go in for the smog test. Also if the car hasn't been serviced in a while it would be a good idea to replace the air filter and fuel filter.
