Question about 1989 Toyota Corolla 2 Door

1 Answer

Radio light dims when I press the brakes

I have an odd question. I have a 1989 Toyota Corolla. Car runs awesome considering its age and mileage but it is posessed or something. WHen I hit the brakes, the radio light dims. I have no loss of power and everything seems ok, it just struck me as rather odd and I want to know what this might be. The only other issue I have with the car (which I just bought a few months ago) is that it will like 'skip' or something every great once in a while but ragains power just fine. I have written this off to just it being an old car. Any ideas?

2000 Toyota Corolla automaticaly turns on randomly while parked with no key in the ignition. Oddly pressing the brake peddle kills the engine. How do I fix this? Or should I just call GhostBusters?

I'm going to guess that you bought the car used and the sell forgot to tell you that he had an "auto start system" installed or the car came with one preinstalled. An auto start system will start the car and can be set to do so every 15 mins or so. It is designed to shut off if you dont put the key in and press the brake as need to put the car in gear (like a thief would do) so if you put the key in and then hit the brake it will continue to run. Either your hitting a button on your key fob or your neighbor is. email me with more info and I can help you further. lots of luck. If you find this helpful please leave a good rating Thanks, Jack

Engine check light comes had it checked by dianostic reader it and it said was an open or short cicuit or low fluid level or shift solenoid valve but the car seems to run fine i drive it about 100 mile...

there is a technical service bulletin from toyota on this issue. the dealer needs to run some diagnostics, and there is an extended warranty that cover it, if you are within the age and mileage limits. the fix is to replace the PCM (computer). good luck!

My 1996 LE toyota corolla has a very low fuel mileage. Like it runs just 300km on 45 liters of fuel. This is a very bad mileage for 1.8L engine. Otherwise, car start, idles and runs fine. The spark plugs...

Check each wheel to determine if you have a brake dragging. If you raise a wheel off the ground, you will hear a little brake drag, but the wheel should turn pretty freely. If you find a wheel(s) that are difficult to turn, you know you need to service your brake calipers.

The Maintenance Req indicator light is on. The car is a 2005.

That's a mileage-based indicator that is there to remind the driver that, based on the mileage on the car, some service interval has arrived. It's NOT a signal that there's been a fault or failure. Being that you have a Toyota, the typical timing service interval is every 60k miles (replacement if you have a belt, inspection if you have a chain). At that interval, the water pump, thermostat, accessory belt(s), spark plugs, timing tensioner (for a belt), and all fluids and filters are typically replaced, as well as an inspection of the brakes and suspension, and a tire rotation. It's a costly service but it's important. That's probably why your light has illuminated. Take a look in your owner's manual and look at the maintenance intervals -- you'll see what is due at this time.

2004 toyota corolla-battery is 1 1/2 years old. Car wouldn't start this morning or take a jump charge. No radio and interior light is dim. no clicking noise when I turn on the ignition. Any ideas?

bad connection from battery to car. If you hook up jumer cables adn you still have no lights, you have a bad connection. Loosen battery cables and wiggle them or take sandpaper and get a good clean connection.
