the reset you are trying (10 minutes 3 times) is for 1999 and up GM security systems, u need to go to the dealer for testing, the sensor for the key has failed or the little resistive wire has fallen out of the key shaft.

You have to take the key out for five -10 seconds after you wait ten mins in the on position. The reset does not take effect until you remove the key.

Replaced Problem Solved. What Is Happening Is Your Key Has A Chip And That Chip Is A Resister And When The Valve Is Not Sented To The Computer It Disengages the Fuel Pump And Than Tells You To Wait. Soon All That Will Happen Is You Will Get The Wait 3 Mins And It Will Never Start, A Good Locksmith Can Take Care Of This For You And That Will Save You Some Money. SOURCE: anti theft system

The chip is in the key. Either the key has lost it's program or the transceiver is not recognising the key. Try another key if you have one.

Theft system 99 sunfire

The security, antitheft, or passlock light is a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM (Theft Deterrent Module). These 3 parts are in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, then these parts are sending signals to each other. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, even just for a second. When the signal breaks, the car misinterperates this as an attempt at theft and goes into antitheft mode. The car thinks its being stolen or hotwired because it is not getting that signal from YOUR specific key. This is why the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle.
This link may help you find ways to bypass this or fix it yourself.

I have a 1993 Pontiac Bonneville SSE 3.8, I tried to start car by using a screwdriver in the ignition and now my car wont start it started by jumping the starter but wont stay running. Now I have a set of...

What you need to do there is to turn the ignition switch on and off three times, leaving it on the third time. Leave it on for about fifteen or twenty minutes and the light should become steady. then you can start the engine. (I usually put a jumper battery on it to make sure it does not knock down the battery too far) If that fails to work, then the problem likely is in the switch or the security module.

Anti-theft

if the vehicle starts then stops and the anti-theft light is flahing you may need to re-set the pass-key system to do this you will need to atempt to start the vehicle and when it stalls leave the key in that position and watch the anti-theft light. it should flash on and off for about 5 to 10 minutes. when it stops flahing turn the ignition to off then try to restart your vehicle
