You could try to beat a slightly smaller socket on it. You could use a dremmel, and cut a line for a large screwdriver, or cut the head off, and remove the bolt with some vise grips.

If metric, try using an American size on it even if you need to hammer it on (within reason) If American size go the other way with a metric socket.

    Use six point sockets only.

Top bolt on starter is stripped, how can it be removed with only basic tools

You may have to break the starter off the remaining bolt to get access to it.Bolts can be removed by,hammering a smaller socket on to it or cut a line across it it remove it with a screwdriver and wrench or hammer it to loosen it for easier removal or vice grips/heat or use a LEFT HAND drill which will drill and try to remove the bolt at the same time and of course easy outs in a drilled hole in the bolt.

How do I take the bolt out of my ecm the bolt is stripped and broke Im trying to change the ecm and bolt

I think you mean the head of a bolt that opens the ECU can is stripped. The only way is to use an angle grinder (or maybe a Dremel tool with grinder/cutting wheel) to remove the head. Once it off, the remaining bolt can usually be removed with long nose pliers.

Can't get my starter off of my 1992 linoln town car iv got the bottom two bolts off and i got one bolt that i can't get off its the top bolt that i can't get off its stripped

If the bolt head is stripped, if there's enough space, I would get a 4" grinder w/cutting wheel and cut the head of the bolt off. Once the starter is pulled out of the way, spray liquid wrench or some other type penetrating oil onto the remaining stud, let it sit for 20 min, and then begin removing it with a pair of vice grips, channel locks, or a small pipe wrench. You may need to tap the stud a few times with a hammer to jar it loose.

My starter doesnt' turn on at all i went underneath to unscrew the bolts and I realize the other bolts is strip and I cant get it out what can I do without breaking it can i cut it

If the bolt head is rounded off you can get a socket made to remove stripped bolts through Autozone / Advance stores. The socket is made to bite into the rounded off bolt head.

How do you remove a stripped 6 o'clock bolt on starter

I've never heard this terminology before.
Please try to re-explain.

If you are talking about a location bolt, then you may have to cut the bolt head or nut off with either a saw, or by using heat.

I am trying to remove the cylinder heads to replace the head gasket and don't want to twist off the head bolts. I have tried some heat and penetrating oil and tapping on the top but they still are

What kind of vehicle are you working on? Usually head bolts are torqued betweent 50 to 70 ft/lbs. so yeah, you'll need to put a long breaker bar on it, make sure it's at least 1/2 " drive so you don't break your tool

My 99 cavalier is leaking from the top of my fuel tank... one of the bolt that holds the strap is striped... how do i remove the bolt with out making a spark... what would leak on the top of the fuel tank

most likely the leak is the tank its self, dirt sets on top of the tank holding moister on the top of the tank causing little rust pin holes. did you strip the bolt head or the threads? if just the bolt head they make a strip out socket you can get them from your local snap-on tool truck or some sears stores keep them and all can order them, but if you striped the threads you will have to cut the bolt head off and i suggest you have a pro do it for obvious reasons.

How many bolt studs hold the head to the 2.0 liter engine.. 2003 hyundai tiburon.. Also, my 10MM allenhead doesn't seem to bite enough on the bolt.. do you recommend anything to help get it off without...

hi their should be 10 bolts holding the head on and the tool you need is an inverted torque socket these are needed to undo the head bolts using an allen key would just thread the head and would mean drilling the head bolts out which is a night mare, so dont use allen keys as they will not be strong enough to undo the head bolts without threading the head bolts.
as for the gearbox as long as you have undone the 2 at the top and the ones either side and the bottom bolt you should then be able to remove the gear box from the engine, the problem with your car is the gear box has not got much room to come away from the engine far enough to allow you to get it out, you may need to undo the engine mountin bolts to allow you to have a bit extra room you may also need an engine hoist to support the engine whilst removing the box, you may get away without one but it will be difficult.

make sure you have removed the drive shafts from the gear box and also the starter motor and make sure the speedo drive is undone and also the electrics for the reverse light if this is located at the top of the gear box.
