Question about 1998 Ford Windstar
My Windstar has two real funky electrical quirks.
1. The dome ligth will just stay on
Most times after carrying passengers that open the side door or the back door - the "open door indicator" on the dashboard won't turn off even after the doors are closed. If I don't pull a fuse, the insight lights will stay on until the battery is drained.
2. Locks all jump up after I lock it
When I try to lock the doors by locking pressing the "lock doors button" on the driver-side door, all the doors will lock for 1.5 seconds and then all of them will unlock at the same time (as if the car was pulling a trick on me). I can only lock the car by pressing that same button on the passenger side.
I can live with #2, but the lights staying on is a real hassle.
Thanks in advance for your help.
You most likely have a bad door ajar switch- the door panel has to be removed to access it, its on the door latch- you can unplug them this will take care of the batt drain prob.as for the locks it may be a switch problem- most ford vehicles will not let you lock the vehicle from the driver's door when it's open to prevent locking the keys in.
