Question about 1993 Chevrolet Camaro

1 Answer

I have had a problem with my car starting, it turns over but won't start. We have had many tests done. The vat system has been disconected, it ran fine for a couple of weeks then the same thing happened. I finnally got it to start, but the check engine light came on. I had my neighbor hook up his tester and the 2 codes were P1665 wich read fuel level output and code 1676 wich read Driver 4 line 6. Could you hgelp me with this? I was driving my Camaro on the freeway and when I took the exit and put on my brake to slow down my car died. It acts like it is out of gas but I just put gas in it. It will turn over but will not start. It acts like it is not getting any fire. What could cause this? It is a V6, 3.4 engine.

Driver 4 line 6 indicates a computer problem, you will have to have that checked by a qualified technician, and fuel out put could either be caused by the glitch in the computer or your pressure regulator and or pump

Fuel pump

Testing of the fuel and ignition systems is in order. Intermittent problems need testing when the problem is present, otherwise it won't help find the problem.
I would start by checking for spark on a spark plug wire (or two or three plug wires, in case it may be a bad coil), during those times when it won't start. You need to see a blue, snapping spark to verify ignition system is working.
To check the fuel system, have the fuel pressure checked, and the injector circuit checked. Good that you hear the pump, but you don't know if fuel pressure is correct, or if fuel is getting into the cylinders. One short test is to spray starting fluid or carb cleaner into the intake while engine is cranking. If engine fires up for a few seconds, you know it is a gas related problem.
If ignition system is the intermittent problem, could be failing coil or coils, ignition module, crank position sensor, even the computer, or a wiring problem like a bad connection. Testing of each component will be required, or you could start throwing new parts at it, like many people do, until you find the bad part. Find a reputable mechanic-there still are a few, lol.

Car starts with a jumper wire to starter but will not start with key

Not sure if I follow your question completely.
If the car is a GM model and has the VATS system the system will keep the engine from cranking and starting.
The lock cylinder reads a chip in the key to allow the engine to crank and start.

Have an Oldsmobile 1997 Achieva security light stays on and won't everyhing but still won't start , would like to know would the Pro VATS Full Bypass work on it.

If the security light is on, then you have a failed antitheft system. This light is only for this. If you bypass the system, your car will work perfectly again.

I have a 1994 Camero V6, 3.4 Was running died, now won't start, or turn over checked: Fuel,Hot Battary, Security Light stays on even with key removed. Wasn't even on prior to dieing. Car had not...

this car uses the VATS/PassKey system, which is turning the security light on when you try to start it.

One possibility is that the resistor in the key is damaged or dirty. If you have another key, try that. If the chip in the key wiggles or the contacts are dirty, that might be the problem.

If it's not the key, you might need some electrical work done on the security system to get it running again. If you're good with electrical work, you can get wiring diagrams (Haynes repair manuals include them) and try to do it yourself.
Most likely your VATS system has an issue and it is not recognising the key and since the light is staying on, that is more evedince thay this is going to be the issue. I am going to do some reading and see what we can do to by pass that if possible on your car.

Security light flashes and won''t start. has plenty of battery. clean all keys and dried.

It's when the security light starts flashing that the infamous "chip" in the key becomes a nightmare to many. Gradually the car begins not cranking anymore or if it cranks it would start and die in a second. Randomly it will do this more and more often until it won't start anymore. VATS, PASSkey and Passlock immobilizer systems are killing cars all over North America, they have a short lifespan and are certainly more effective against owners than thieves. Here is how you save your car
1st trick, (if not starting) turn the key forward 2 clicks till right before it would normally start, leave like that for 10 minutes. ( no less ) After 10 minutes, turn key back then forward and your car might start. I did this in my regal for more than a year. If its shuting down while running, im sorry i have no quick fix...

Cheap fix: Bypass the chip in your key. Temporary, but effective. Until the TDM (theft deterrent module) in the dash poops out, then you're kinda screwed. I was told that these types of key security systems have a 7-10 year life span. Sucks for us. This link explains the "Key Issue" pretty well.

Never worry again fix: Bypass the whole VATS/Passlock/passkey I or passkey II system entirely. Literally take it out, and throw it away. I just did this in my Regal. Took about an hour. Took longer to find the thing than it did to fix the problem. For a list of cars effected by this problem. See the NEWROCKIES link on the right side of their page......... They sell a unit for 200 bucks to totally bypass this system FOREVER. life time-money back and all that. Finally did this in my car. Well worth the 200 if you've looked into getting this replaced... Anywhere from 600-1000 bucks.

The problem is your Vats security system. This causes the car to either "not start" or "shut down" while running. (depending on the system) If the security light flashes, i guarantee that this is what the problem is. 1st trick, turn the key forward 2 clicks till right before it would normally start, leave like that for 10 minutes. ( no less ) After 10 minutes, turn key back then forward and your car might start. How do u disable a 94 cadillac deville anti theft system

U can bypass it (called the VATS system) but not fully disable it, what is done mimics the key code to fool the VATS module into sending a OK to start signal to the fuel injection computer (called the ECM). go to the web link below for instructions on the bypass.
