SOURCE: Removing Headlight Assembly on 2003 Ford Focus Ultimate Edition

Jack up the front of the vehicle. Secure the vehicle with at least once JACK STAND. Open the hood of the car. Remove the front grill. Remove the fasteners on the head light assembly that are located on the exposed inner fender and the one that was under the front grill. Lay on your back and look between the front fender and the head light assembly. You only have about 4 inches. Remove that screw. All screws are either Phillips or torks.

SOURCE: removal of headlight assembly on a 2000 ford focus

There are 2 screws on top and 1 below the headlamp. The top ones are easy. You'll have to lie on your back to remove the bottom one as you'll have to reach up behind the bumper to get to it. It'll be close to the fender wall

SOURCE: 2004 ford focus headlight ajust ment

Your adjustment screws should be white nuts (adjustable with an allen wrench, or a socket, or a pair of pliers) located behind the headlamp assembly right up against the fender

Park your car on a level ground 30 feet from a wall and measure the height from the ground to the bulb and mark on a wall. You only need to do this and the aiming for your low beams as your high beams are on the same bulb

Your headlights should also say VOR. When you turn on your headlights, aim them right at the mark that you put on the wall, with the brightest cutoff directly under the mark

SOURCE: My headlights need adjusting on my 2009 Ford

The adjustment screws/nuts should be located either on the top of the headlamp assembly, behind the headlamp assembly, or near the frame rail by the radiator support.

You will have vertical adjustment screws for each independent beam (separate highs and separate lows, but will be same screw if highs and lows are the same bulb). You may also have additional horizontal adjustment screws as well

Park your car on a level ground 30 feet from a wall and measure the height from the ground to the bulb and mark on a wall (do this for highs beams and low beams if the bulbs are separate, if highs and lows are the same bulb, only do it for the lows)

For Low Beams: If the headlights read VOR, then aim the brightest part or cutoff part just below the mark on the wall. If it says VOL or nothing, aim them 2 inches below the mark on the wall.

For High Beams (if separate from low beams): Aim the headlight directly at the line you marked on the wall.

SOURCE: how to replace a 2001 ford focus headlight switch

p, li { white-space: pre-wrap; }

Turn the engine off, open the hood, and disconnect the negative battery cable (--) with your pliers.

Locate the power distribution box against the firewall on the driver's side of the engine compartment. Flip up the latch and remove the plastic cover.

Determine which headlight fuse you want to replace. The 2001 Ford Focus uses four headlight fuses--one for each headlight. Fuse number 16 is for the passenger side low beam; fuse number 17 is for the driver's side low beam. Fuse number 26 is for the passenger side high beam; fuse number 27 is for the driver's side high beam.

Grasp the fuse with your fingers and pull it straight out of its mount. Insert the new fuse in its place. Replace the plastic cover and reconnect the negative battery cable.

How to change a front light bulb

p, li { white-space: pre-wrap; }
  • Ensure that the headlights on your Ford Focus are off by checking you have turned the headlight control all the way to the off position. Make sure your car is off and the keys are out of the ignition, so the daytime lamps are also off.
  • Open the hood using the hood release handle located inside the vehicle under the steering wheel on the left side of the instrument panel. Walk around to the front of your Ford Focus and release the auxiliary latch located under the front of the hood. Lift the hood and secure it in place with the yellow end of the hood's strut in the designated holes.
  • Locate the bulb cover found just behind the headlight assembly and remove it by turning it counterclockwise. Swivel the wire clip that hold the bulb and connector in place out of the way by turning it to the left.
  • Pull out the headlight bulb with its electrical connector straight out from the headlamp assembly.
  • Disconnect the bulb from the connector. Later editions of the Ford Focus may have a retaining ring that lies between the bulb and electrical connector. Simply remove this retaining ring by twisting it off with a counterclockwise turn.
  • Install the replacement headlight bulb in reverse order of removal. Use a HB2 replacement bulb for models older than 2004 and a HB5 bulb for models produced since 2005. Replace the wire clip and bulb cover, as well.
  • Turn on your Ford Focus and check that the headlights are working properly after closing the hood.

I cant get the old headlight bulbs outta of my 2001 ford focus any answers on how to get them out easily

All of the Focus model lights are identical. I recently installed Sylvania Cool Blue's on my '01 ZX3. Pop the hood. At the front of the car, look to the back of the headlight assembly. There will be a plastic cover on the back. On some models, you need to unscrew the plastic cap; on others, it just pops or screws off. There is a small retaining clip that surrounds and holds the bulb in place. Removing the clip can be tricky. On my Focus Wagon, there is a special place to push and release the clip that is above the bulb - perhaps further above than you might think. Gently push this aside with your hand and the bulb assembly will come right out. Just remove the original bulb and pop the new one in. These bulbs have a standard three-prong setup so there's only one way to install the new bulb. Pop the assembly back in place, attach the retaining clip and put the plastic cover back on. On the driver's side, you may want to remove the battery cover to give yourself a little extra room to work. No tools. 10 minutes.
