    Operation

The sensor provides a signal to the ECM. This signal adjusts engine management parameters that allow the engine to perform at optimal performance.

    Removal & Installation

    1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

    2. Disconnect the connector from the air assist injector solenoid valve.

    3. Disconnect the air by-pass hoses.

    4. Remove the valve from the intake manifold.

    To install:

    1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.

    2. Tighten the sensor to 3.7 ft. lbs.

    Testing

    1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.

    2. Using the Subaru scan tool, connect the test mode connector at the lower portion of the instrument panel (driver-s side) to the side of the center console box.

    3. Turn the ignition switch ON.

    4. Operate the valve.

    5. If the valve does not produce an operating sound, replace it.

The idle air control valve only controls idle speed.
The most common causes are restricted exhaust or air intake, or low fuel pressure.

Car starts up warms up cant give it gas bogs out

A couple of things to check are the idle control and the throttle position sensor. Also check your air filter and clean the MAF sensor (mass air flow) with MAF sensor cleaner-available at any parts store.

Hi im having a problem i had a year ago. car starts but when i put it in gear it stalls. i can drive it if i keep my foot on the gas even when stopping. im wondering if the timing belt could have some

sound like faulty idle air control valve, or faulty tcc transmission solenoid, could have intake vacuum leak caused by pcv stuck open or egr valve stick open should see check engine light if you have egr fault or idle air control valve fault.

Not really enough info to give an accurate diagnosis but you may check the Idle Control solenoid. Some refer to it as Idle Air Control valve. or sensor

After sitting, hard to start, seems not to be getting fuel. you can spray starting fluid and it starts, must run at higher than normal idle for a few minutes, then will idle normally.

OPERATION The Idle Air Control (IAC) valve controls the engine idle speed and dashpot functions. The valve is located on the throttle body on. This valve allows air to bypass the throttle plate. The amount of air is determined by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and controlled by a duty cycle signal. Fig. 1: Cleanable IAC valve — 5.0L engine version shown, others similar 88484g22.gif
Fig. 2: Non-cleanable IAC valve — 5.0L engine version shown, others similar 88484g23.gif
prev.gif next.gif TESTING OBD-I System
  1. Make sure the ignition key is OFF.
  2. Disconnect the air control valve.
  3. Use an ohmmeter to measure the resistance between the terminals of the valve solenoid. NOTE: Due to the diode in the solenoid, place the ohmmeter positive lead on the VPWR pin and the negative lead on the ISC pin.
  4. If the resistance is not 7–13 ohms, replace the air control valve.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION Fig. 1: Idle air control valve mounting — 4.9L engine version shown, others similar 88484g10.gif
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Disconnect the engine wiring to the IAC sensor.
  3. Remove the two retaining screws for the valve.
  4. Remove the IAC valve and discard of the old gasket. Fig. 2: Disengage the idle air control solenoid electrical connection 88485p12.jpg
Fig. 3: Loosen the idle control solenoid retaining screws 88484p08.jpg
Fig. 4: Remove the idle air control solenoid from the throttle body 88484p09.jpg
    To install:
  5. Clean the area of old gasket material.
  6. Using a new gasket, attach the IAC valve to the engine. Tighten the retaining screws to 71–102 inch lbs. (8–12 Nm).
  7. Connect the IAC valve wiring to the unit.
  8. Connect the negative battery cable.

Would an idle control valve cause a car not to accelerate?

no, idle air control valve is literally to control your idle speed.
what happen when you press on gas? car shakes, RPM goes up, or engine just bogs down?

Replacing Idle Control Valve on 97 Pathfinder, need help!

it's on the throttle body. Here's a Quest with same 3.0L engine. These often need cleaning with carb or throttle body cleaner

Idle Air Control (IAC) Valve When the engine (6007) is running but not at idle, the throttle valve controls the amount of air admitted into the engine. The powertrain control module (PCM) (12A650) increases the fuel injection output in proportion to the increased airflow to achieve the appropriate air/fuel ratio. During idle, the throttle valve is almost fully closed. It is therefore necessary for the idle air control system to supply air for combustion during idle. The idle air control (IAC) valve allows a metered amount of air to enter the intake manifold (9424). The camshaft position (CMP) sensor detects engine speed and sends a signal to the PCM. The PCM sends a duty cycle (On/Off) signal to the IAC valve which allows additional air to enter the intake manifold. Air is added by the IAC valve to maintain the set lowest idle speed at which the engine can operate. The idle speed adjusting screw allows adjustment of the airflow into the intake manifold.

0cb8ac7.gif
Fast Idle Control (FIC) Solenoid The fast idle control (FIC) solenoid helps maintain a constant idle speed while the air conditioning is operating. When the air conditioning is turned on, the front climate control panel sends out two signals. One signal is sent to the powertrain control module (PCM) (12A650) to engage the A/C compressor (19703). The second signal is a ground signal sent to the FIC solenoid relay, to engage the FIC solenoid. The FIC solenoid supplies additional air to adjust the increased engine load.
