Question about 1999 Mercury Cougar

1999 Mercury Cougar has problems starting

My car does not want to start, sometimes I must turn the key over twice to get it to fire up. The start is very weak and takes serveral seconds to finally kick in. I have replaced the fuel pump and alternator both within the last year. Battery is still good. I have also replaced the air filter, fuel filter and fuel pressure regulator all within the last month. My dad has also determined that it is not my starter that is the problem. What else could be going wrong? How do I fix it?
Also, this could be a totally unrelated problem but my car has problems getting up hills, it jolts (like it is going to die) sometimes when going up an incline. It has has alot of problems running while the heat or defrost is on. When either is on the car will consistently jolt forward every 4-5 seconds and the RMP's will momentarely increase as the car jolts even though I am not applying more gas.

check compression, the ignition, firing order. may be there are some thing not coming to part. if all good, then change the plug, or may be the plug wire?

I would check all of the connections to and from the alternator and starter, plus the grounds, they could be corroded or have weak connection, as far as no power going up a hill, check the map sensor

Thats bull. The key only authorizes the start sequence, ie starter relay, not the starter! Is this the original key? Go somewhere else.

Mercury cougar turn key on and want start at all

This is not enough of a description of your problem to be able to hazard a guess. Are you getting fuel? Spark? Is your compression good? Fuel in the tank? These are some of the things you need to know in order to diagnose the problem.

1999 mercury cougar. won't start...cranks...battery ok.

V6 ? 4CYL? Have you verified SPARK? Did anyone check the "fuel pump inertia switch?" Its in the right front kick panel. If it was a "Anti-theft Issue" the light would be on or flashing.

Replace started

It is located on the right side of the motor. You have to remove the air filter box, and battery to get to it. You have to take it out from the top side. It's a tight fit but can be done without too much problems. I replaced mine twice. You have to work pretty much blind, and by feel. This will save you at least $100.00 in labor.
