Question about 1990 Chevrolet Lumina

I'm stalling out

If the car is in neutral it idles. In any other gear it's idle fluctuates alot and it tries to die. It's like its making the transmission drag. We replaced one of the fuses and it ran fine for three days. After that fuses didn't help. Alot of the times when you go to put it in gear it just dies automatically. When I let my car just idle in park it goes dead even at redlights I have to put it in neutral and keep a little pressure on the gas to keep it running.

Try checking the idle air control valve and do a throttle body cleaning.

Just to give an update on my car - I've been having an issue with the car stalling when moving from Park into Reverse or Drive (I have automatic). ... I have been playing with the idle advance trying to get more ... I put in the remainder of the AT fluid I had on hand and the car never died on shifting after that.

My car will start and idle fine sometime and sometime it dies and dies when put in gear


Engine stalls cold or RPM fluctuates at idle up and down or dies near idle.

This problem is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and throttle valve but always run a OBD2 fault code as well as the cleaning procedure. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (do not use carburetor spray cleaner!) from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control. If the above cleaning doesn't cure your issues you need to have the computer controlled automatic idle speed control system diagnosed and repaired by a dealer or electronic engine control repair shop.

The idle drops when i put it in gear almost stalling the engine


That is normal, in park or neutral there is no resistance on the engine when you put it in gear there is resistance because the car wants to move. Also when you turn on the ac that turns on the compressor that is run off the belts of the engine so it puts more resistance on the engine. Low idle is not a problem unless the engine dies.

it sounds like your alternator is havin problems it might not be puttin out enough juice at idle to keep everything workin make sure you clean all the connections you can to

Try having operation diagnosed so you can stop replacing parts at random - cheaper in the long run.
