Question about 1998 Ford Explorer

OD off Light Flashing on my 1998 Ford Explorer XLT 4.0 V

I have a 1998 Ford Explore XLT 4.0 V6 Engine. My OD off light started flashing and will not let me put the truck in OD while the light is flashing. It will sometimes reset its self and go away and allow the truck to be in OD. There does not seem to be any difference in the driving except when it is in OD v/s not in OD it drives smoother. Hope you can help... Thanks!! JK

I have had it tested and received different answers from each place I took it. One said a speed sensor, One said Torque Converter and another said the transmission was going out.. I'm scared some of these places are trying to make a quick buck... Thanks!!

The trouble code is P0741 but another place said this was not necessarily the problem it was just the code it was throwing. I hope you can help with this. They used a Snap-On tester, would this be accurate enough? Thanks!!

Is this something that is going to cost an arm and a leg before I take it to the Ford shop? I've been reading online and it seems that a lot of people are having this same problem with these Ford Explorers. Is there any recall on this problem? How could I find out? Thanks Again!!

The OD light is flashing to alert u to the fact that some kind of fault has occured in the transmission, the problem is in many cases a slipping condition, you need to have the trans control system tested for the trouble codes that are stored when this light flashes, this will let u know what the problem is and a direction to follow to repair it.

what is the trouble code? has it been to the dealer where they have the proper tools and books?

The code does indicate a problem exists, so not sure why the shop would tell you that, this code indicates a problem in the lock up transmission torque converter clutch citrcuit, it is stuck off, u may not even notice this problem, but it will affect fuel economy to a great degree as it is like losing a top gear, the engine spins much faster with the torque converter clutch not working/engaging, this may be a defective torque converter or a defective control solenoid, there is no way to tell unless a ford dealer does the required tests to determine the exact cause.

I have a 2004 ford explorer xlt v6 4.0l gas. need a o2 sensor diagram. I need names and description. for example bank 1 sensor 2 after catalytic converter

Hope this helps

Bank two are the even cylinders. Follow exhaust manifold on the side. You will find an O2 sensor just after or on the manifold, before the catalytic converter. Then, look after the catalytic and you should find another O2 sensor, this is the one you mention in your post.

O?D light flashing on 1998 ford explorer saying it is off. when you try to drive it the overdrive goes in and out.

the overdrive light flashing on a A4Od transmission is a fault signal for the transmission , just like a ck engine light but for the transmission only , get a code read to find the fault stored in the ecm and then you'll know what exactly it is
its very common for engine swaps to have a few intermittent sensor failures on restart due to the connectors all getting maybe not all the care and protection they deserve in the swap (plastic baggies) and having a bit of dirt and corrosion in them now (spray contact cleaner)

with the od in/out/in/out an educated guess is that the engine throttle position sensor is not being read now , but a code reader will tell all

2002 ford explorer od light gets flashing and i loss power

The flashing light means there is a system problem with the automatic transmission. You will probably notice a lack of power when starting from a stop with this lamp flashing. The dealer or local mechanic should be able to scan for a fault code.
