Question about 2000 Pontiac Montana

1 Answer

Pontiac Montana has computer codes

My Pontiac Montana is showing computer codes for Torque Converter Clutch and EGR Valve. I had my transmission rebuilt about 2 years ago. Now, my check engine light was coming on. It is not on any more. I took it in the get check and they read codes for the above two problems. I took the car back to the place that rebuilt the transmission. They hook it up the machine and are saying there is nothing wrong with the transmission and that the code must be an old code. My question is could the code be old? How long can a computer code show on the computer? I do have problems with acceleration when I turn on to a ramp to get onto the highway. Acceleration eventually kicks in.

Most GM it takes about 100 start cycle to clear any DTC codes that do not reoccur. As for the lack of power when accelerating could be a dirty fuel filter and needs to be changed.
As for the EGR Valve code it may be getting carboned up and need to be replaced or cleaned soon with carb cleaner. First try changing the fuel filter for your lack of power.
If you are ever going to have you Montana Rescanned and don't mind spending a few extra dollars, Have a Dirve Cycle DTC test done. http://myweb.accessus.net/~090/dtcobd2n.html
Good luck and hope this helps. Note: The program on the transmission on the Montana thanks to GM and there wisdom was made to slip when the transmission is cold to warm up the drivetrain quicker, which premature failure is common around 150,000 KM or 100,000 Miles just after the warranty. Regular transmission fluid and filter change will help exten the life of the transmission on the Montana.

I have been getting the code p0740 it says something about the torque converter clutch circuit. it doesn't seem to be going into over drive. dose anyone have any suggestions I can try.

On some cars, there is a TCC solenoid in the transmission which can be replaced by removing the bottom pan. In some cars this solenoid can't be accessed without major disassembly.

2001 Pontiac Bonneville engine code: P0742 Torque Converter Clutch Circuit stuck on. How do I fix this?

Well you have to take transmission's valve body cover off and locate the torque converter clutch solenoid and take it off and change it if necessary. because without that solenoid your transmission will not survive for long. Good luck
