Transmission service Own 2005 Ford 150. 85,000 miles. Dealer has recommended to have the transmission serviced on some type of cleaning machine. Costs $150. Is it necessary, and is this a reasonable price? I don't tow anything. Thank-you

Aw...what could a Ford guy know? But, this chevy guy says change the fluid and filter. Your fluid is like the blood in your body (only with a really pathetic pair of kidneys) Therefore it needs changing to prevent contamination and loss of its chemical makeup from heat breakdown.Changing it is a cheap way of preventing really expensive repairs. Flush is a "fad" do it the right way.

I have a 99 F150 with 92,500 mi. on it and I have never had mine done and I tow lots of things. The key to transmission fluid and filter change is, if the trans shifts bad or does not pull the same then change it before you do any more troubleshooting, if you change it and still have problems then additional troubleshooting will be necessary. If you want to service your trans for peace of mind then change the fluid and filter, make sure that the level is full and correct. $150 dollars for an oil change on a light duty pickup is a little pricy.

1st let me explain that your trans needs the fluid and filter changed every 60,000 miles to maintain a long service life, the service the dealer wants to do is just exchange the fluid in the trans without replacing the filter inside the trans, i don't recommend you do that kind of service, just have a fluid and filter service, it is less money and what the factory wants done.

You say you don't tow anything and you only got 85,000 mi. on the truck i don't think it is neceassery. Just chg.filter and oil and blow out the cooling lines and you should be good to go. I'am not saying its a bad or an expensive procedure i just don't think its neceassery.

What is the requirement when you install a new transmission on a 2004 Ford Taurus

Since this is out of warranty your are probably not getting it free. There is s required change of fluid and filter after so many miles. You would need t check your owners manual or Dealer.

I wanted to know what type of services I need done to my 2005 ford focus to keep it in good running condition.

Most of the dealers recommend Scheduled Maintenance Services at 30K, 60K, and 90K.
At 60K the coolant has to be replaced with a new one, to avoid a corroded radiator or partially clodged heater core. Radiator Flush. The air filter. The spark plugs has to be replaced with the original OEM. The transmission oil starts breaking at 30000 miles and has to be changed at 60K. This is the best insurance for the transmission of your car. It is optional but, it is recommended to flush the breaking system too. This protect the ABS system from corrosion. Do not forget to replace brake bleeding nipples with new one. They are cheap, and avoid costly problems in the future.
The EGR valve has to be inspected.
The last and most expensive service is the timing belt change between 60000miles to 100000miles.

I have the works (oil change, tires rotated, etc) as recommended by dealer. Also, air filters, cabin filters etc. I am due for an oil change and the last time I was at the dealership they stated I...

Actually, I had a transmission rebuilt by a certified transmission shop and they recommended that I go to a shop to have it flushed and filled every 30,000 mi. and that it was better than draining and filling with a filter change.

Would like to service my 2006 ford Five Hundred transmission. I am told that it takes a very special and expensive fluid. Is the job strait forward other than that?

I own a "06" 500 with 150,000 miles on it. My Ford dealer recommended transmission service at around 90,000 miles. I don't recall the exact cost but it didn't seem unreasonable, around $140.00. No special pump out or filtration, just drain and refill.

What should be done to service the transmission? is it beneficial to change fluid ? ? synthetic thank you

How many miles on car?
Do you know the service record for the transmission?
Having any problems?
Does the fluid have a normal color? Smell Burnt??
Personal Opinion:
If the car has high miles and the transmission seems to work well and the fluid seems normal let it be. If you decide to change the fluid, use the mfg, recommended type only (no synthetic), change the filter, gasket and clean the pan (do not flush).
Good luck

Do I need to change transmission fluid on my 2005 ford freestyle

The high pressure filter and fluid are supposed to be changed at 60k intervals. Ford has a very specific oil for this transmission and the service fee will be $300 to $450 - mine was around $420.

No other car place will touch the CVS transmission in a Ford Freestyle and most Ford dealerships are clueless on thier maintenance and repairs. On most issues that crop up the first thing they want to do is swap it out - for $4000+.
