Jeep Cherokee Laredo-won't start unless you give it gas

When I try to crank my Jeep, it will turn over but will not fire, unless I manually give it gas and keep my foot on the pedal. As soon as I lift my foot off the gas it goes dead. It is fuel injected, so I know you are not suppose to give it gas. Please help.

Check the wire harness around the Throttle body, what your looking for is may be a bad Throttle Position Sensor. The sensor could be warn at the spot and not sending a signal to the PCM. To add some light at the end of the tunnel, best thing to do is get the Jeep scanned for any DTC codes. Auto Zone scan for free and most Auto Garage charge any where from $10.00 to $20.00 to hook up the scanner since they want your business.
Here is a link that i hope will help you out and there are links that may help you retrieve some codes your self which is a plus for Chrysler products.
Good luck and hope this helps.http://www.allpar.com/fix/stallml.ht

Could be something as simple as a clogged fuel filter or the pump is not putting out the needed psi of fuel to the line. If it is running rough when you hold your foot down on the pedal then check to see if the line is clogged or water in it. There are a few places to start. I do believe its all electronically controlled so you cannot adjust the cable might look at the control module on the injection unit.

My truck did the same thing and it turned out to be the crankshaft sensor on the starter.

Won't start 1990 jeep cherokee laredo

Technically if the engine has compression, is getting spark at the right time and fuel, it should start.
Have you checked the spark plugs to see if they are fuel or oil fouled ?
Are you getting spark at the plugs or at the coil ?
Have you tried using carb cleaner or starting fluid in the throttle body ??
Have you checked fuel pressure to see if you are getting enough fuel to the injectors ?

2002 jeep cherokee laredo won't start new battery

The Jeep DTC P1491 code is actually radiator fan control relay circuit.
Soft reset if the battery disconnect would have erased the code; the first thing I would replace for that code (fan relay).
Additionally, its possible thta your THEFT system is activated, check owners manual to disarm.
Hope this helps.

Try some "heet" , STP gas treatment or the like. sounds like you might have some bad gas.

you may need to replace the battery and put some STP gas Treatment in it and check the timing and the crank sensor give these websites a try www.alldatadiy.com and www.autozone.com if all fails stop by your local library and get your hands on a Haynes auto repair manual for your Jeep wish you the best of luck Michigan Man.

Back up a minute...Do you have spark from the coil wire? (juice from coil) If so, change or check rotor and cap (wires do not all go bad at same time so unless they are wet, likely at least good enough to start engine)
