Question about 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier

1997 2.4L Chevy Cavalier LS; Low Coolant Indicator and Temp Gauge

I recently had the radiator flushed and the Low Coolant Indicator Light and the Temperature Gauge indicate that its low on coolant and the temperature is running high. I took it back to the mechanic for another check and he said there was an air bubble in the system and he added more coolant. The indicator light and guage are still indicating low coolant and high temperature. Is there a problem with the cooling system? The vehicle does not overheat.

Take the cap off of the radiator (whil engine is cold) start and run the vehicle. keep runnig 30mins after the vehicle is hot keeping notice of the rad fluid level.
keeping the cap off will prevent the pressure build up that woiuld keep the air in the system, keep adding water or antifreeze as the level goes down. this may take an hour or so.
also with the cap off, you will be able to see if your water pump is operating correctly. you will visibly be able to see movement in the rad when the pum is engaged.

A diagram of the flushing of a radiator and block of a chevrolet blazer LS 2000

Theres no such thing as a diagram, here are the draining instructions, hope this helps...
  • 1-Place a large drain pan beneath the radiator drain plug. The drain plug is located on the passenger side at the very bottom of the radiator on the engine side.

  • 2-Make sure the engine is cool. Open the hood of the truck and remove the radiator cap.
  • 3-Loosen the drain plug. On the 2000 Blazer, the drain plug is a wing-nut type of plug. Twist it with your fingers until the coolant begins to drain.

  • *To flush the block, once you have drained the radiator, run the engine for a bit untill the temp gauge goes up to normal, then the coolant will have been evacuated from the block. DO NOT leave the engine on, once it reaches normal temp, (this will happen quick) turn off right away, otherwise you'll be forking out a few hundred $$$ to fix the worped heads.
4-Tighten the drain plug with your fingers once the coolant has drained fully from the radiator. Remove the drain pan and dispose of the used coolant properly.
Some service stations will take and recycle your used coolant.
    Hope this helps...

My 2004 chevy cavalier temp gauge goes to the middle as soon as i turn the car on and then to heat it's not overheating i got the cooling flush and the radiator serviced and replaed the thermastat what...

It could be a simple as a coolant temperature sender. I'm not sure where yours is located on your car but alot of Chevrolets have two of them. One for the gauge and one for the ecm. If you know where it is just turn your key on and let your gauge do its thing and then unplug the temp sender. If your gauge pegs out or drops to zero that is probably your problem if it is reading in the middle and the engine is cold. You could have a problem with the gauge as well but start with sender.

    Engine Coolant Light blinks constantly.

you put transmission fluid in your radiator? You should have antifreeze in your radiator. You could have a bad thermostat that's causing the car to over heat. Does your temp gauge read a high temperature?
