Losing power going over hill

Hiya, just having problems with my Toyota Hiace 93 model (Petrol). I've driven a few Hiace vans before and they seem to go ok over hills, but the new one which I have just bought seems to struggle going over the hill on 3rd gear, it gets weak to the point of almost conking out so I switch to 2nd gear and the hill isn't steep at all. I've only had the van for 1 week and i've only just come across this problem. But van is in excellent condition. I've changed battery as the other one was almost dead, done oil change, spark plugs look good and also tightened up the fan belt as it was loose and caused a lot of squeeking noise. Other problem is when you turn it on it seems to struggle abit, it seems to be very quiet when you turn it on and stalls if you don't give it a few revs when turning it on. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Regards, Quakez.

Have you checked the air filter? This could be it.

Well i think the piston ring are already loose, causing insufficient air compression leading to lower power especially on uphill tracks. check also for the air-fuel ratio! too much fuel usually is the cause for thick smoke emission; too much air, causes also less power.

I also have a similar problem but it is more a hesitation problem with my 94 hiace petrol. Same thing happens when I start mine up. If you don't give it some revs it will just stall. When going up hills it's as if the van is not getting enough fuel.. kind of cuts out and hesitates when you put too much load on the vehicle to the point where I have to back off the accelerator and then ease it back on to climb the rest of the hill. ( while dropping speed) Changed spark plugs, ignition leads and fuel filter. Going to pull apart the carby this weekend. I guess ill check the in tank fuel filter and pump next. Ill let you know how it go's.

I have a toyota 1994 hiace van, automatic transmission. it becomes slow even on a slight hill road and i need to accelerate more, is it normal or is there any problem with it? all the gears are well c

Typical of a heavy van that is underpowered. I hear review after review about how weak this thing is going up inclines. I do hear that the motor is virtually bulletproof tho. Enjoy your van, don't expect to fly up hills, but expect to get over 500,000 miles on your motor if you do only the minimium maintence.

I need a owners handbook for a toyota 1992 hiace 2.4 petrol van

There are a few on ebay if you search through to ensure you are getting the right one. You could also check scrap yards to see if the last owner left them in the glove box. I haven't found anyone with an electronic copy but you could try signing up to an owners forum, I am sure someone will help you out

Need a diagram to put the vacuum hoses back on a Toyota petrol Hiace van. 1995 model not fuel injected, carbaretted

Hello,
If another expert hasn't already sent you a diagram, you may find one under your hood, usually on the bottom side of the hood, but could be elswhere in the engine compartmet.

I hope this helps you.

Crunchy gears

try changing the gear / transmission fluid first, this may ease up the gearing. but if it still there then you might have a problem with the clutch lining. have a mechanic to replace it.
