Over heating of engine

My location is Doha Qatar, I just acquire my 2nd hand 2.0 hyundai coupe 97 and i'm having problem on engine temperature, it goes above the normal temp. almost on the 3/4 of the temp guage, which I don't experience in the previous days that im using it.I'm using it for almost 2.5 weeks now and I'm only driving for about 30km in a day, I have notice the following.
1. When AC is on temp goes up specially in the afternoon. but its ok if AC is off (as of now)
2. Water from the reserve tank is not circulating, no indication that the coolant from radiator goes to the reserve thank.
3. 3rd time today I check the radiator every morning, and I have to refill it with water for almost 500ml.
4. I have to go back en fort to my house from my work for 4 times in a day. I observe that every afternoon going back to work that is the time that my engine temp goes above the normal, same situation in the night when going back home.

Thank you very much smirf617, the oil appearance is definitely ok, there's no whitining and bubbles, it is the normal color of the oil.

Hi Bob, theres no drops of coolant on my driveway (parking).

I'm suspecting that the radiator cap is spoiled, i have asked one technician, when he heard about the water is not circulating from reserve tank to radiator, he has a suspicion that the pressure is escaping from the radiator cap which lead the water to evaporate and goes out little by little.

I'll try to change the radiator cap and will let you know guys..

    Thanks for the advise..

I too think you might have a leak from a hose , but check the oil on the dipstick if its whitish or has a lot of bubbles on the stick then you might have a warped head [that could be where the water is going ] i hope its not the head because they can be expensive to fix .

Ok if you have to keep refilling the radiator you may hav a leak check under your car for any coolant on the driveway in the morning, also when you turn on the a/c it draws power from the engine, so what im thinking is that gradually over the day you are leaking coolant once you turn the aircon on its making the engine work harder with less cooling causing it to overheat this is all assuming you are leaking coolant

Are the locations of Bank 1 and Bank 2 sensors the same on a UK Hyundai

If the location of the sensors is in the Engine compartment, and probably are then it is quite likely they are in the same location unless they have something to do with the steering system. A generic question based on manufacturing.

How to replace coolant sensor

Hello and thank you for using Fixya. To replace the coolant sensor in your 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe, follow these steps below:

Find the coolant temperature sensor in the engine block on the driver side of the engine compartment. It is screwed into the block and has a wire lead running to the engine wiring harness. Once you locate the sensor, disconnect the wire lead going to the sensor with an open end box end wrench. Inspect the wire lead for melted insulation and discolored insulation. Either condition will require you to replace the wire lead. Make sure the engine has cooled enough to prevent burn injury. Use the appropriate socket and ratchet or open end box end wrench to loosen the temperature sensor. Turn the ratchet or wrench counter clockwise until the sensor is loose enough to turn by hand. Unscrew the sensor and remove from the engine block.Check the temperature sensor for corrosion and the wire lead for damage. Replace the sensor and reconnect the wire lead. Start the engine and allow it to heat up to operating temperature. The cooling fan should come on automatically as the engine temperature increases.Use a gloved hand to squeeze the input hose for pressure. If pressure exists, it means that the coolant is flowing to maintain the engine operating temperature. Now check your engine temperature sensor or warning light to see if it is reading properly.
