Car won't start when it's cold

My car starts fine when it is warm out but since it's gotten colder my car will not start. I have bought numerous parts for it and it still won't start. If I go out with a hair dryer or a torch and heat it up under the hood it will start after about 10 or 15 mins of warming up the box under the hood. I have tried crank sensors and everything but nothing will help. Any suggestions??????? I can't start my car without chok and when I finally get it started I can see cloud of smoke behind me. When I start it, drive for some time, turn it off, it will start smoothely.

I don't know if others have this smoke coming out when they start their cars?

    Cheers mate!

It says here that the couse for black smoke is too much gas entering into fuel mixture, and it makes sense because I have to pull chok in order to get my car started.

I think I have some ideas.

Car not starting or turning over indicates towards multiple possibilities. It can be issue with battery or weak battery. But if battery checks out ok, then it can be starter issue or faulty alternator or problem with low fuel pressure or no spark at spark plugs due to dirty spark plugs or faulty ignition coil or injectors getting cracked or dirty and needs to be cleaned.

To confirm the problem, the basic troubleshooting is required.

Depending on the type of car engine you have, any of these three causes of car start-up failure during ambient cold temperatures may apply to your situation:
http://yourhandymanzone.com/Your_Handyman_Zone_How_To_Pages_Vehicle_Car_Zone_Cars_Trucks_Vans_Engine_System_Engine_Quits_When_Cold.htm

And here are the causes of cloud of smoke:
http://yourhandymanzone.com/Your_Handyman_Zone_How_To_Pages_Vehicle_Car_Zone_Cars_Trucks_Vans_Emission_System_Black_Smoke_Exhaust_Exits_Tailpipe.htm
Likely, your cause of smoke has to do with the air control or fuel regulator, as either of these is somewhat responsible for your initial start-up difficulties.

Hope this helps! Brad

Runs ruff while cold at start up

There is a door in your air intake that is thermoststicly controlled
that is to remain partially closed until tge engine warms up.Thereby letting in cold air on a cold engine, causing it to run rough.

My car won't start in the cold weather. I don not have Power Locks or Power Windows. What is the Problem?

That sounds like a battery issue. Batteries have whats called CCA (cold cranking amps) it is the main thing to pay attention to. This is a measure of how much current the battery can provide at 0 deg F. Batteries work better when they are warm, so the colder it gets, the less current it can provide.

Starting an engine requires a lot of current, over a very short time. Meanwhile, cold engines are harder to start, requiring more power to get them going. So look at your battery and its CCA and since u said u bought the car a few years ago. You probably didnt replace the battery yet have u? Batteries usually have a life of 4-6 yrs only. Hope this helped

My 94 Chevrolet k1500 pickup will not start when cold but when warm it starts fine what do I do

The next time it won't start have a can of starting handy, it is available at any part store or hardware store, spray it into the intake, if the engine starts you have a fuel pump problem more than likely.

Runs fine when cold, not when warm though

The next time it won't start check the fuel pressure you should have 48-55 psi with key on and engine off.

97 cavalier starts and runs ok from a cold start after a few minutes of warm up it starts to run rough and miss. If i try to drive it it will start out ok but won't shift automaticly but shifts fine m

Sounds like possibly more than on problem, crankshaft position sensor, or ignition module likely on starting prob which maybe affecting shifting due to hard code in ecm, or shift prob could be shift solenoid in valve body of transmission. Both parts readily available from local parts store

Car won't start when it's cold

The ignition switch is bad. I had mine replaced. Saturn found 2 error codes that came up. You can also use a hair dryer I was told and warm up the switch. I hope this helped.

CHECK THE COLD START ENRICHMENT VALVE AND OR THE IDLE CONTROL VALVE. I AM ASSUMING THAT YOUR VEHICLE IS FUEL INJECTED. ONE OF THOSE HAVE GONE BAD.

1990 dodge colt, does not want to start in the cold

If it starts with a shot of WD-40 then fuel delivery is obviously a problem when cold. If intake air temperature sensor ( for one) is telling it that its still real warm out, then it won't give it enough fuel to start on a cold day, which requires more fuel.
