Sometimes in most overhead valve cars and straight 4cylinders you can have a valve guide seal that may not be perfect.
when you pour the oil down inside the head it goes into the valve guide seal and when you start the car it will burn some oil off that went down inside the valve chamber and into the cylinder.
nothing to worry about unless the car smokes alot or often.

Blue smoke coming out of exhaust

Colors are usually as follows.
White = water/steam, often indicating a blown head gasket.
Black = fuel (gasoline) rare these days because of fuel injection. ( Also black) can be worn diesel engine
Blue = oil smoke. Old days often was worn oil ring on the pistons; today, more often worn valve stem oil seals. Many cars can have those seals changed without removing the cylinder heads.
God bless your efforts.

Thanks for the swift/very fast reply. Yes, it is an issue diesel engine, 2.5D. Formerly, I was using 20w-50, castrol gtx for gasoline and also for diesel engine. Now I changed to shell 15w-40 and this is...

How much smoke is comming out. Most diesel engine oil has zinc in it, that's the only difference unless it looks like a chimney I wuld not worry about it...

Nissan maxima 2000. Oil dipstick level shows too high. Regular oil changes done and filter with proper amount added. White smoke alerted me to recheck things. Only thing I found was dipstick shows oil

If the oil level goes up, something has to be leaking into the engine oil pan.
That would either be gasoline from the injectors or coolant from the radiator. If you are not adding coolant, it could be a leaking injector.

Black smoke from 2000 Avalon

I can change my oil every 3 decades and it'll be at regular intervals. What are your intervals? 3000 miles? 84 million Mississippi? One lap around Daytona Raceway?

Where do you see the black smoke and carbon coming from?

A mechanic that "forgot" to change the oil filter is not only a poor mechanic, but he/she is ripping you off. You need an oil filter with each oil change more than you need new oil. If I poured clean water through a dirty Brita filter, would you drink it?

There is no way to tell you exactly what's wrong over the internet (besides your mechanic). But, assuming the smoke and carbon you mentioned is coming from...

the HOOD: You either have an oil leak, or just a bunch of oil sitting on your engine burning off. Check oil with dipstick (something you should be doing at least once a week in a NEW car, let alone a 10year old model.) The leak could be poor workmanship by your mechanic, or something entirely different, too.

the EXHAUST PIPE: You may have blown your piston rings or have a stuck/bent valve.

Toyotas are somewhat known for running well beyond when they should. I blew out rings in my '93 pickup and drove it daily for 3 more months before it actually quit. I'm still not convinced it's dead.

Just want to know if I have to change the timing belt on my 1997 Avalon XLS with 63,350 original miles (always used Premium gasoline and Mobil 1 oil) and if the belts is changed, does the water pump need...

DUE TO THE AGE OF CAR, TIMING BELT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO REPLACE WATER PUMP, BUT IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA..GAS AND OIL HAVE NO EFFECT ON TIMING BELT OR WATER PUMP.....

My truck is burning oil like crazy. im always toping off in between oil changes up to 4 quarts. i dont see any oil leeks! its a 97 ford expedition 4x4 with a 4.6

This is indicative of worn piston seals, or faulty head gasket - where the oil is burned in the ignition of the gasoline.

Worn piston seals will show in blue exhaust smoke when under heavy accelleration or start-up.

thats bad, check if the fuel pressure regulator is leaking at the vacuum hose. if so, replace the regulator and do an oil change asap. its running rich for some reason.

Engine won't start. It will rotate but won't start. It was sitting over 3 years and the oil/gas wasn't drained when it was stored in the shop. I tried starting fluid and had no luck, it almost fired then...

It would be a good idea to change spark plugs, wires have the accel body cleaned and have the coil(s) checked if working ok. Since there was black smoke coming out, at least you know gasoline is flowing to the engine.

Erratic >>> DRIVING EXPERIENCE

Ted i will have to say this dosent sound good at all. especially when i hear Very Hard shifting. i see that you have changed the transmission fluid and am guessing you did the tranny filter also. when the fluid came out was it burnt and did it have an awfull Smell? if so i am willing to bet your transmission is about done. sorry to say. but if you go to your local auto parts store and Get a couple of bottles of what is called (Lucas Trans Slip) and add it to your tranny fluid. this stuff works great and really helps out the old seals here at the shop any tranny job we do we add it in because it is a great conditioner allso. but i wish icould help you more with the other problems. but i would have to take it for a drive or hook up a scanner and see why the engine light is on to start with. I hope some of the information is helpfull to you. please rate my solution
thank you
Aaron
Ps the Lucas is only about $10 a bottle and it does do wonders
