Sounds like your idle air control valve is bad.  This valve, like it sounds, controls the idle on your vehicle and from what you make it sound like you are having idle issues.  As far as if it is worth fixing, I would say yes because it is a easy fix.  Not sure what engine you have so I can't look up the exact cost but you can check it out on AutoZone.com.  The IAC is located on your throttle body and is pretty easy to change out.  Let me know if you have any other questions.  Thanks for rating my response and for using FixYa!

Rpm does not drop below 1000

No,only on carburated engines it,idles down to the set point,on yours,it's fuel injected, pushing gas pedal won't kick idle down, should go down after a certain amount of time, does it automatically,If you start and drive a 5 mile ride and stop at a stop sign,it should idle at it's set point if there's no engine problems, which may be.5 to .7 on your tac. When you normally first start,it will idle between 1000 to 1200 rpm's,don't push on gas,let idle say 15 seconds, put in drive and go.

2004 Escalade won't start , the chimes sound when entering but in an attempt to start everthing goes dead and nothing happens with the key in start position

There is two things. First, its immobiliser problem. Second, it may be that the starter is jammed and when you try to start, it takes all the power, thats why evwerything goes down and dark in the dashboard.

2002 F-150 regular cab. Idling seems like it wanted to die. While driving would rev up and down wanting to die. Finally died at a red light and had to be towed home. In the driveway it acts like a dead...

From what you describe, it sounds like your alternator died. The battery's main function is to provide power to start the vehicle. Once started, the alternator takes over and provides the main source of power to the truck, and also recharges the battery.
When the alternator stops working, the car starts to run solely off the battery. It will work for a little while, but as the battery starts to lose power, strange things will happen with the electronics. The computers and other electronics that control the vehicle are very dependent on a constant, steady flow of voltage. When that voltage dips below 11 or 10 volts, the car may start to run badly or strange things may happen with electrical system.
When there was finally not enough power to keep the car running, it shut off. Of course, once this happens, there will not be enough power left to start the truck back up.

99 HYUNDAI SONATA, ENGINE WHEN WARM CONTINOUSLY REVS

Sme thing happened to me, but the advice is grim. I had to have the whole transmission replaced because of a bad torque converter...I would be sitting at a light and the car would just go all by itself, or as I was driving down the highway the tach. would go crazy and shut the car down into "safe" mode where it would not go out of first gear. Other times I would have to keep both feet on the brakes because the car would be pulling so hard! The dealership told me the crankshaft position sensor too, then a month later the car just shut down and would not start. Hope this helps.

Yeah

Ok, it sounds like that the timing is retarded and needs to be advanced. Now when you say revs up and down, is this happening only at idle? Do you happen to have a manual for your truck? If you do, remove the idle air control (IAC) valve and clean the inside of it out. It may be carboned up. With carb. cleaner, clean the inside of the throttle body out. You may see a bunch of black soot looking stuff come out of it. Keep spraying the carb. cleaner until it's comes out clear. Advance the timing 2 to 4 degrees, this will get rid of the "no take off from a dead stop" issues. Get a manual, so you can see how where the components I'm talking about are. Let me know how things go.

Self reving problem???

This possible solution is also weird. I have a '91 Prelude Si also- GREAT car. Do you have anti-lock brake option? If you do, check the fluid level in the anti-lock reservoir. My Prelude did this revving thing twice, and while checking under the hood to see what the heck was going on, I discovered the brake fluid level was very low. I topped it off, and after giving up trying to figure what was wrong, I restarted the car, and no revving problem. I don't know why this is, but it worked for me twice. Countrycurt0
