Question about 1994 Acura Legend

2 Answers

The sunroof on my 94 Acura Legend is jammed closed.

The sunroof has power and will move just a little before it jams. I suspect an alignment issue. Any suggestion for a fix or something to check?

Does your sunroof have a manual crank in the middle of the ceiling just before the rear window?  If so, have you tried to crank it by hand to see if you can get it back in alignment?

I own a 94 legend GS and have the same problem. My problem is being caused by a broken piece on the end of the cable. It moves about a quarter of an inch and stops because only one side is trying to open. I haven't found anyone who will sell me the individual part I need without having to buy the whole assembly. For the people saying to try the hand crank. To help a bit: The crank slot is inside the light fixture for the back seat. You have to remove the cover on the light to see it. It's just a fail safe in case the electric motor does not work.

It's almost easier to just take the glass out instead of removing the headliner. I know mine was easier that way. You can very obviously see on mine that only one side wanted to move so that told me to check the cables. Then found out that one of the cable ends had a broken plastic piece at the end of the cable. The manual crank will do no good if that is the problem. I removed the trim and then the screws holding the glass itself. Then I could stand up in the car and see the linkage and such. You can slightly work the button or crank to see what moves and what sticks.

Commander sunroof

only 2 possibles
1: no power , 12vdc to motor
2: motor bad. (got 12vdc there active)
3: or its jammed.

to tell if its jammed is easy , disconnect the motor drive
then turn the drive end by hand , cant move it? that means the panel
tracks are jammed and the motor can't move it.
so unjam it, by close examinations. of the guides etc.

the FSM has the full instructions on this, why not read the FSM
then ask questions that are not clear there. or?

a jeep KIA? really?
if you post to KIA and not Jeep, answers are 10 faster and 100 times
more accurate. if at all.
all sun roofs.
1: check fuses
2: check voltage at roof motor. (active.) ( if no 12vdc hot wire the motor , does it close now? if no 12vdc the switch(relay) is bad.
3: remove trim and check the mechanism for jamming.
4: remove motor and try to move the drive , by hand, if you can it will close, if you can't, its jammed. if jammed find cause of jam.

My sunroof is stuck and the manual crank meets a lot of resistance

On manual sunroof models, the crank assembly drives a small pinion gear. It can easily be converted to power sunroof. This is a common problem, and the issue is two fold. First, the sunroof may jam at the point where the windbar meets the sunroof. You can simply pull the bar down, and it closes from there. If it's jammed back, carefully crank it further open and examine the bracings and screws holding it in place. Tighten the screws and clean the tracks. Oil the tracks with light spray oil and crank it closed to the point where it jams and give it a little push - you will hear a click and it will pass that mark. Be careful, don't force anything. If it still refuses to close, it will require some adjustments to ensure it isn't cocked on an angle when trying to close it. To close it, begin cranking carefully and put your fingers on the sunroof and pull forward at the same time.

There is an adjustment procedure, illustrated in the Haynes manual for these vehicles. It is somewhat complicated, but it is fairly straightforward. Be sure to be patient or the cables may break - especially if they are dirty and the track is misaligned or extremely dirty. I had this same problem, and converting to power sunroof eliminated the noises and also gave me a better traveling quality since the unit doesn't allow any fore/aft movement. Boneyard motors are easy to come by, and the wiring is a snap to install. Be sure to obtain the switch bank whilst you are there. It's 15 dollars - and by far and away a great investment. Get the cover trim plate that goes where your crank is also - you can always spray paint to match your vehicle's color - mine was Business Gray and I used black covers. It took me about 30 minutes to install and all day to enjoy.

2003 tiburon power sunroof won't close all the way . It'll open all the way but starts to close & then stops.

sounds like the metal deflector in front of the sunroof,is separated and caught in the roof mechanism, however there are other issues that can cause that condition, it can be anything from a bad sunroof switch to the sunroof tracks jamming, start with looking to see if there any obstuctions in the track..the sunroof mechanism can get costly to repair.

Sunroof info

There should be a switch for the sunroof on the left end of the dashboard panel. Push it up to close it and down to open it. It's a 'rocker-type' switch that says ROOF on it.
