Replacing Blower Motor Resistor

I am having problems with the blower motor resistor on my 1997 Buick Century Custom. I think that I found it under the passenger's glove box, but I am having problems getting at it. Please help. Thanks!

AH YES, I REMEMBER THIS ONE. IT IS QUITE A CHORE TO REMOVE THESE BOLTS. IF YOU HAVE ONE CONNECTOR ATTACHED TO THIS RESISTOR NEAR THE BLOWER MOTOR THEN YOU HAVE THE RIGHT PLACE. YOU WILL NEED A 9/32 SOCKET WITH A SWIVEL ADAPTER. THERE ARE THREE SCREWS HOLDING IT IN THE DUCT. A SMALL 1/4 INCH DRIVE RATCHET WITH A 1 INCH EXTENSION WILL MAKE THE JOB GO A BIT SMOOTHER. Blower motor resistor located on 2004 buick century


Does your Buick have manual or automatic cilmate control ? Could have a blower motor control module or processor ! It , if it had a resistor it would be near the blower motor . It's located under the dash below the glove box . To get at it you need to remove the panel under the dash . Video on youtube showing how to test blower motor electrical circuit .

blower resistor is common to burn causeing smell. check with dealer, there may be a campain on this problem. if not. replace resistor and harness (pig tail) and blower motor..

98 buick heater stop working


Its faulty blower motor resistor. The low and medium speed on blower motor is controlled by resistor and its actual speed is high. So because resistor is not working, blower motors actual speed which is high is working.


It can be faulty blower motor or faulty blower motor resistor. Get the blower motor inspected. If it's faulty it has to be replaced.

98 century heater blower motor resistor location


look under the passenger side of the dash. There will be a plastic trim panel that will need to be removed. Once its out of the way you will see the blower motor. The resistor will be just to the drivers side of the blower motor.

A/C Heater blower fan does not cycle through all speeds


Yes it is the blower Motors Resistor board. It is up behind the blower motor, just under the glove box. You have to remove the black KICK panel with its two "Push Pins" that will break too. There are 3 screws holding that resistor board in, the back two are a bear to get to. Good luck.

Air and heat wont work unless blower is on high, where do i find the regulator to change it


Sound like the blower motor resistor is bad.

Blower Motor Control Module Removal & Installation To Remove:
  1. Remove the insulator from the right side of the instrument panel.
  2. Disconnect the connectors from the blower motor resistor and blower motor.
  3. Loosen the two forward screws and remove the rear screw of the resistor assembly.
  4. Remove the blower motor resistor assembly.
To Install:
  1. Install the blower motor resistor assembly.
  2. Install the rear screw and tighten the forward screws.
  3. Connect the electrical connectors to the blower motor and resistor assembly.
  4. Install the insulator under the right side of the instrument panel.

You may have a bad blower motor resistor. The blower motor is located in the passenger side foot well. You will need to remove the kick panel on the passenger side to get at the motor. 
The blower motor resistor is located on the back of the blower motor housing under the dash on the passenger side. It can be difficult to get at. Remove the cover panel from beneath the dash on the passenger side. Unplug the power 'ribbon' wires leading to the resistor. Unplug the wires that lead from the resistor to the blower motor housing.
There are usually two, one black and one purple that share the same plug. Remove the short hose that leads from the blower motor housing to the ventilation ducts. Remove the blower motor by removing the three hex screws that hold it in place. Remove the resistor by removing the three hex screws that hold it in place. 
The resistor is right against the firewall so two of the screws are very difficult to reach. A slender flexible socket extension will make the job easier. Attach the new resistor in place using the same hex screws. Only 1 or 2 of the original three are needed (the part is very light) if you do not feel like fighting with the ones next to the firewall.Reattach the blower motor and reconnect the hose. Plug the power cable wires back into the resistor and the wire from the resistor back into the blower motor.

replace the blower motor speed control resistor 1st then the blower motor if the resistor doesn't fix the problem. Below are instructions to replace the resistor.
