I'm looking at buying a '96 Olds SW with a '3100' engine. It starts, idles for a minute, then dies; no stalling or sputtering. Then it'll start again and run for a few moments then

I am going to assume the check engine light is not on.
This could be very tough to diagnose, which may be why the car is for sale.
It could be a long list of things from a relay to a faulty fuel pump to a bad coil or a bad connection in the wiring harness. Even the computer could do it.
If you can narrow down the list by finding out if it is loosing fuel to the injectors or spark to the plugs you may find the cause.
And it may have to die and not start again before you find the cause.

Maybe something wrong with inertia switch? Part of diagram so you can see inertia switch wire colors. How long since a tune-up? Any applicable trouble codes? Also, use a gage check proper fuel pressure, my info says 35--45 psi. I've seen fuel pumps that would run, but wouldn't make proper fuel pressure. I'm not saying the fuel pump has a problem, at the moment, I don't know?

From what you describe, it sounds like your alternator died. The battery's main function is to provide power to start the vehicle. Once started, the alternator takes over and provides the main source of power to the truck, and also recharges the battery.
When the alternator stops working, the car starts to run solely off the battery. It will work for a little while, but as the battery starts to lose power, strange things will happen with the electronics. The computers and other electronics that control the vehicle are very dependent on a constant, steady flow of voltage. When that voltage dips below 11 or 10 volts, the car may start to run badly or strange things may happen with electrical system.
When there was finally not enough power to keep the car running, it shut off. Of course, once this happens, there will not be enough power left to start the truck back up.

My cars engine, battery, and oil lights are on. HELP!

well when the car shuts off or stalls your check engine , oil . battery lights are all going to come on the oil light is telling you there is no oil pressure due to the car not running the battery light is going to come on due to the alternator not pushing any juice because the car is not running and the check engine light also now. check under the car and make sure that your moter did not cut,rip or fray any wires comming from the starter area. this could be a big problem and make lights flicker and the car to run funny.

I don't have my manual at the moment, but if your car is equipped with an external voltage regulator, that could be your problem. It's kind of a square black tin looking box usually mounted on the inner fender well, passenger side.

HI there
Try checking a few things first like jump start again and then take off the earth lead only{black} and let it run for 6 minute on idle then turn on the head lights main beam ,,if the engine dies in about 2 minutes then the Alternator isent working full power as it should be pumping out 13.5 volts min and the lights should be bright and stay on... if not you have a Alt problem still like a bad feed to alternator or a bad connection on the battery post or a loose wire from engine to body {earth wire } also check out the relay to Alt ..
Let me know how you get on . RON
