Question about 1995 Chevrolet Tahoe

Shifting from 2nd to 3rd

My 95 Chevy Tahoe is having an issue switching from 2nd to 3rd. The same day that it started having issues the windshield wiper motor won't work, the speedometer won't work, the tacometer will not work, and neither will any lights on the console. Also the rear hatch won't pop the gate open. Weird and no help at the transmission shop. They said it may be electrical. Help please.

    Do you know of any other fuses that could be in the is car other than the distribution block under the hood and the fuse block on the side of the dash?

    Wow well that is not something I have looked into but I will try that first thing in the morning. I was also told by a local Firestone here that it may be a shifter cable? Don't know about that. But I did try to contact a electrical technician who says he will charge $88 per hour and can't gaurentee how long it will take to diagnose or to actually fix the problem. I also checked all the fuses in and out of the car and came up with one possible problem. The fuse #20 is good however the slot it plugs into has no power even if the car is in the on position. Don't know if that could be it but I guess with it saying "trans" it could be it? I really hope it is something easy that gets fixed soon:) And again you have been soooo helpful and I can't thank you enough ;)

    Don't worry about the timing I have 4 kids so trying to get back to anyone is always hard but I really do appreciate you evening trying. Hmm that sounds like a good plan. I will try it tomorrow and hope it works. But if it does than does that mean I need a new ignition switch? Thanks again and always remember smile:)

    So far I have checked the ignition switch and it is not that, however the electrical has been played with and now the wiper both front and back work and the rear hatch works now:) But the speedometer stills does not work and the trans is still not going into 3rd gear. Maybe it is the vehcial speed sensor but it is about 75$ to replace so that will have to wait a little:) Any other thoughts? Btw do you know what the ohm range should be on that?

On that trans is a 20 way connector. There is a red wire that should have 12 volts with the ignition switch on. Test it with a test light. With all these issues at one time you may have lost 1 leg on the ignition switch. Check your fuses in the dash and under hood with the ignition on. Be sure all the ones that should be hot are.     No I don't know of any other fuses. You have lost so many things at one time that it has to be electrical. I don't know how familiar you are with cars, but it may be your ignition switch. If you buy one be sure to get the electrical part. Most people call the ignition lock cylinder the switch but it is not. Every system that you have lost is powered directly from the ignition switch. If it was newer I could send you info from GM service site, but the site only goes back to 98. I work for a GM dealer in Texas and I will continue to try to help.

    I will look tomorrow to see where the fuse gets it's power. It should be hat when the switch it on. We have some books that will give me a better idea. I will let you know what I find.

    Sorry it has taken me so long to answer you. The trans fuse is powered by the ignition switch. If your switch is good or has been replaced then the circuit between the switch and fuse block is open. You can jump a hot wire to the fuse and try to drive it. It should shift. I recommend this only for testing, not a valid fix. Good Luck

    The ignition switch would be my first choice. It is not expensive and not too hard to change. Be sure to get the electrical part not the lock cylinder, common mistake at parts stores. Let me know how it goes. Best wishes.

I have a 1989 Full size chevy blazer that sat for 6 yrs. Transmission delays shifting out of first gear. Its is almost at 20 mph before it shifts into 2nd. I put an engine from a 95 tahoe into the blazer....

It could be low transmission fluid, a plugged transmission filter, or defective torque converter. I would start with the fluid, then the filter. If these do not solve the problem, I would recommend a reputable transmission mechanic to assess the issue.

I have 96 Chevy Tahoe 4 x 4 with transmission issues also. My transmission which is a automatic would shift like it suppose to from first to second gear and it would not want to shift fm second to third....

The solenoid are under the transmission oil pan, the home mechanic can repair this issue, just make sure you replace all parts on the solenoid including the o-ring

Code 81 is brake switch input circuit.The being stuck in third is a limp mode because of a hard code being set.If you repair or replace the brake switch issue you should be fine on the shifting issue.Good luck and let me know if i can help.

a number of issues. Tcc regulator bore worn out, the infamous check ball seat it hammered badly, or/and calibration issues. I have seen all three issues on the same trans - often!

there is no drain you just drop the trans pan. if there is too much fluid most oil change places have a vaccula that will pull fluid from the dipstick tube

1996 tahoe bangs gears after short drives on warm days

check your rear brake shoes if you had them changed recently they may not have been adjusted properly and that sometimes will cause that and also check the rear diff yoke where the driveshaft goes insometimes it get gear oil on it and harder for it turn. i would try these hints first before i take to shop
