2000 ford truck starting problems

This has been happening every once in a while. When you turn the key, nothing happens, not even a click. The battery is OK. After a while the truck starts. Now it won't. I tried jumping the battery, then I tried to hook it up directly to the starter, but went I tried hooking up the jumper battery, I got sparks when I tried to hook up the hot side. So I got under the truck to unhook the cables from the starter and I must have touched the hot to a ground and the starter started to turn. (The cables were not hooked to the jumper battery.) We tried turning the key, but still nothing.

Hi I am Vortash sounds like either faulty ignition switch or bad Earth strapping on the engine ,, or at the battery terminal to body .. you didn't say if it was petrol or diesel .. When you say you touched the Hot to ground I sumise you meant earth as if it was the positive side it would have not turned just sparked . Can you tell me when you turn on the ignition do the dash board lights come on as normal ..ign charge oil etc.. ? Regarsd Vortash

Most likley the positive wire has corroded off the starter. look at the small red wire more closely, if theres alot of corosion, replace the wire (and starter if needed) if you dont see much corrosion give the wire a good tug just to see if it really is hooked up well. you should disconnect the batt. before doing any of this.hope this helps and good luck

Sounds like you either could have popped some fuses, OR you could have even fried the computer. Let's hope you just popped some fuses tho, Hope this helps, James Booth

I have a 2009 Ford Escape that intermittently will not start. I bought it used from the dealer for my daughter to drive to school which is a couple of miles from home. This is what happens. I put the key...

Believe it or not I have found that one key will start my 2009 Ford escape and the other will not-even after replacing the battery in the key. I though it was a dead battery or possibly the starter but it is the key. I haven't figured out how to get the key repaired. Thank God I had a spare one!

Starting problem

It could be the starter solinoid or the starter, If you can remove starter you can take it to any advance auto parts store and they can check your starter for free,

Help needed with starting problems. 1998 Ford Taurus SE. After driving the car for more than one hour the car will not re-start. I will turn the ignition key and nothing happen, all of the auxiliary...

Check the wire harness to the starter solenoid, the wires could have a break in it or the solenoid could also be bad. The heat of the engine could be causing the solenoid to fail till it cools down. Try that first, good luck and keep me posted, be glad to help.

1996 Infiniti I30 turn key and barely turns over

The problem is almost certainly the starter and not the battery. Once a battery gets to the point that you turn the key and nothing, not even clicking takes place, it is highly unlikely that after a few minutes it will turn over. However, the corrosion is an indication that the battery will need to be replaced anyway. Normally, the starter in the beginning stages of complete failure will do exactly what you described, turn the key and nothing, no noise, no clicking, nothing. I have seen starters that will start the car after doing that if the vehicle sits for a little while. The starter will engage fewer and fewer times until it finally completely fails. Sometimes, when you turn the key and nothing happens, you can have someone tap on the starter with a bar or something with a little weight while you are attempting to start it and it may start. The starter on that car is on the drivers side of the engine, toward the front, down low. I would suggest taking your car to a AutoZone, or parts store, or even Wal-Mart and have the battery tested, as that regardless of the starter issue, you are going to need a battery. Another thing, Infiniti starters will make a wheezing sound for a second as the car is starting, so listen if you can get it started again and see if you hear that sound. Hope this helps you and good luck.
