Try disconnecting the battery, but before you do that look in your manual to make sure you disable the security lock to the radio if it is activated. That way when you reconnect the battery the radio will work.

The slamming of the hood may have shocked the relays and the ecm may need to be reset. I know it's a shot in the dark but i'm just limited to what happened. Did you check the fuses?? You may have a bad fuse from trying to boost another car, if your car was not running.

Good luck and hope this help, keep me posted.

This is an indicator of a dead / undercharged battery.
Voltage on a battery should be close to 13volts, But the cranking amps are most important during cold winter months.
Have the battery tested. Most Auto shops will test your battery Free.

Make sure all your fuses are good. If this is not the problem you may need to turn your car in for repair, because this problem could be a lot of things.

Car tach jumps and cover of air filter blew off.

It sounds like the engine "backfired" and blew the cover off. This and having the tach "jumping" means that the engine timing is erratic. This can be caused by the crankshaft position sensor or the ignition module. It could also be cross firing at the coil pack,if so equipped. Make sure all of the wiring to these components is good.

Jump starting the car

Unless you have a "jumper connection" under the hood, just jump to the battery. Be careful to not make sparks, and connect positive side first.

You will have to go to the fuse panel and "jump" the hood open. There is a little nub that pulls out with a copper band. You will need to hook the positive side of the jumper cables to the nub and the negative to something metal. The hood will immediately open. Hope this helps someone else.
