Do your basics, check water in the fuel, loose intake clamps including turbo lines. maybe try a fuel additive to increase cetane rating. . most fuel sold in the US has a lower cetane rating

Engine run rough and black smoke coming from tail pipe why?

Go to the wreckers car junk yard and see if you can find another module or buy a new one but yes it sounds faulty... modules are non-serviceable so just get another... Run a code reader just to make sure that it is that module thats faulty

Occasionally runs rough

This is usually caused by a bad crankshaft postion sensor.

Why does my 1988 ford ranger 2.0L is running rough and missing and blowing black smoke

Sounds like it is running rich, could be a stuck injector or a bad water temperature sensor. Is the check engine light on?

Black smoke from exhaust, rough idle, black soot on plugs

signs of a bad fuel pressure regulator-- the vehicle will run rough, the engine will not start ( usually in the mornings,) many times engine starts but stalls shortly after starting. a bad regulator can result in fouled plugs. replacement is only cure. 1- black soot on plugs-2-black smoke from tailpipe-3- running rough-4- stalling, good-day! repost if need be.

Sounds like you have some valve guide seals bad or broken rings on the pistons that is if it is an oil smoke. If it is a flood smoke it sounds like you have an 02 sensor that has went bad.

I working on a 99 tdi jetta runs rough at low rpms and smokes excessive white also sounds like its missing. around 2500 rpm it seems to take off compression test show 300psi average

Usually white smoke is water or coolant. The compression test suggests the head gaskets are ok, but make sure the coolant is clean anyway. Is it possible the car has bad fuel? Water in fuel? Theres no ignition system to cause a miss, but if the diesel fuel isnt pure, it wont combust either. Honestly, I would try putting some good fresh fuel in it and see what happens.

Black smoke when i start engine, very rough idle.

sounds like possible a sensor went bad or is loosly connected. O2 sensor??? Also check the air filter. Sounds like whatever it is, is making the truck run rich----that would be the black smoke.

Hope this helps

Make sure the coolant is full, then change the coolant sensor near the thermostat housing. This will put the car into advanced timing mode again. Do not over torque the sensor. 14ft.lbs or less as needed to stop seapage. Good luck!
