It's very possible to change the wheel bearings, but you may want to make sure it's not your brake rotors grinding... if the pads are worn out, the rotors will make alot of noise... or if the pad is worn down to the indicator clip on the pad (makes a scrape or squeak w/o damage to the rotor to warn of low brake pad.) take the front wheel off, and spin the rotor and check for excessive wear and for the indicator to be in contact with the rotor.
Changing the bearings is easy...be sure to press in new bearing races if needed...
Check the easier stuff first... brakes, pads, rotors...

In addition to the great answer above, it is extreamly improtant to torque the front hub nut to the proper torque. If you under or over torque the nut which puts pressure on the bearing, you will be changing it again in a very short time. Refer to a shop manual, or go to the local auto parts store and look at a chiltons manual for reference torque value.

99 dodge stratus real bad grinding noise in front end and its not the breaks

Only thin left is the wheel bearings failed or if front wheel drive then a failed cv /s joint. IF the bearings are faulty the grinding noise will be the disc rotor grinding on the caliper . Check out the front end and look for failed ball joints in the suspension.

I hear a loud grinding noise when i drive my car

Check front tyres & wheel bearings espesially the R/H/F. Feel tyre for high / low spots on inside & jack up & spin wheel if you get noise while jacked up it is not the tyres but wheel bearing or brake pads but more than likly a crook bearing by the sound of it. It needs to be tended to ASAP

2000 Chevy Blazer 4x4...started making a horrible loud noise after my cruise control went out. I have recently replaced my hub and the brake pads and the CV axle. The noise comes and goes and only happens...

does it get louder above 45-60mph? and much quieter at low speeds. It could be wheel bearings, a rear differential or front differential. If its a grinding humming noise its wheel bearings, listenin to see if theyre coming from the front or rear, left or right, or both when your driving to know what wheel bearing are bad. If its a whinning noise, its probably a differential. check and listen to hear if its coming from the front or rear. Also, check for loose plastic around the wheels. Lastly check your tires for uneven or choppy wear. move your hands front to back on the top of the tire. does it feel really choppy and rough, maybe you just need new tires

Grinding noise in driver side front wheel.

You either have a bad wheel bearing, or a bad brake pad. Does it do this only when you apply the brakes, or making turns, or is it continues. If its only while using the brakes, most likely the brake pads are worn. If it only does this while making turns, may be wheel bearing. Remove the front driver wheel and inspect the brake pad liners. check the thickness of the pads, make sure the pads are not metal to metal. to check the wheel bearing, while wheel is still on the car, put the front of car on jack stands, while wheel is off the ground spin the wheel and listen for any noise that sounds like the sound it was making while driving. If it makes this noise, you then can take a steel tube about 3 to 5 feet long, put it under the wheel and lift up and down on the wheel, and notice if it has any movement or play as you lift it up and down, if it moves, then likely its the wheel bearing.

Front wheel bearings are making a loud noise

If they are the wheel bearings making the metal grinding noise, you need to replace them ASAP before it causes more damage.

Check the ft diff actuater. Sounds like the ft diff isn't complelely disengaging when in 2 wheel drive. Also I'm not sure but I think that the fr driveshaft should not be turning when in 2 wd. If it is turning then you could have a problem with the transfercase.
