What are symptoms of a clogged fuel filter? It's a 2001 Mazda 626, it's a four cylinder.

low fuel pressure , random misfires, hard starting
it has to be extreme for a filter to be blocked
the same indications for a blocked filter or problem pump can be from a faulty EVAP system or EVAP purge valve not venting and the tank is in a vacuum condition
read the fault codes first

Sixteen year old car with only 40K miles must not be driven often, or sat for some time. I would suspect fuel system issue, such as bad pump, clogged filter, bad regulator or faulty injectors. Start by testing fuel pressure.

99 mazda 626 cut out and won't restart has spark and fuel

When you checked fuel did you check for proper fuel pressure your pump may have pressure but not enough to keep it running. Also Check all your fuses, I had a truck crank and crank I replaced fuel filter etc and come to find out it was just a 5 amp fuse for the ignition

Just trying to get the motor to turn over. and trying to locate the fuel filter and how to replace it

A fuel filter will not cause a no start, check the pressure and see if you have any. Spray starting fluid into the intake and see if it starts and stalls, that indicated no fuel pressure. Also run a MECS OBD1 computer control system fault code test, you will need a MECS (Mazda Electronic control system) system scanner to do that or a Ford Star tester with a MECS adapter kit. (Ford owned a controlling interest Mazda then and now) You may just have a failed fuel pump.

Have 99 mazda 626 sat idle for a year replaced batterty and alternator belt . cranks but won't start.

I would check to see if the car is getting fuel to the engine. Make sure your fuel pump is kicking on. Check to see if gas is going to the fuel filter from the pump. Make sure gas is going through the pump as well. You could also check the fuel pressure to avoid looking. Make sure it is in range. Also, make sure your battery terminals are cleaned and they are not loose. Make sure all the wires are tight and correct at the alternator. You may have an issue with the ignition system. check for spark. You may have a bad plugs or perhaps, a crank sensor or cam sensor. It could be anyone of these parts. You just need to do the proper test to eliminate all possibilities. If you have a question, just let me know.

Code 17 on a mazda 626 1992 lx what does it mean

The OBD-1 two digits trouble codes listed 'code-17' as:
Oxygen sensor.

This means that the fuel and ignition systems performance are in need of attention.

1.Distributor Cap: remove the 3-bolts holding the distriboutr to its body.
2. Inspect the distributor cap for cracks, and the roror-button is not worn or broken.
3. Inspect the distributor-cap terminals are not corroded or charred. Replace if charred. Clean them out if corroded.
4. Check the distributor-rotor for cracks or corrosion on its tip, and lesser spring tension.
Replace as necessary.
5. Reverse steps 1-4 to re-install distributor cap. Be sure to remove and replace the plug wires from the old distributor-cap to the new distributor-cap one-by-one. If not, the engine would not run.

1. Undo the top clips holding the fuel-filter hose, and undo the lower clips also.
2. Take out the fuel-filter from its mount.
3. Replace the fuel filter as necessary.(please not the way it was mounted) Reverse removal for installation.

My mazda 626 1994 keeps cutting off after starting. then it finally starts on the third try or so....what might be the problem?

has the fuel filter been replaced? that might be the easiest place to start. checking the fuel pressure might also be good after you have determined that the fuel filter is in fact plugged.
