There is a bellhousing bolt that goes through the engine block and screws into bellhousing. You will need a long extension (2 to 3 feet) and an 18mm wobble socket to get to it. It is located on the firewall side of engine. Remove right side tire and using long extension and wobble socket you can get to it through the right fenderwell. Some GM cars have 2 bolts you have to get this way, one is right above the other one. Also, don't foget the torque converter bolts. Good luck. Hope this helps.

Knocking noise after replacing automatic transmission in 98 ford escort zx2 4cylinder

Three most likely causes are: #1 You forgot to tighten up all the torque converter to flex plate nuts/bolts. #2 You cracked the flex plate during the transmission change. #3 You forgot to swap one or both of the alignment dowels from the old transmission to the new one during the change. These are hollow dowel pins. They go between the bell housing of the transmission and the engine block. Failure to have both dowels in place will lead to the flex plate cracking [see #2]

My 2007 grand cherokee limited 3.0lt turbo diesel has a serious rattle in the transmission, would this be a cracked flex plate?

Other possibilities can be bad trans mount, heat shied on cat or bad catalyst conv. Or engine mount leaning on frame

Flex plate makes a noise

The flex plate may be cracked and this is causing it to hit the starter drive or other point inside the bell housing. Remove the transmission and replace the flex plate is the likely fix. Have a shop confrinm this guess of mine.

My 85 monte carlo ss is making a clicking sound. It seems like the sound is coming from under the car near the tranny. I don't know what it is. All my fluids are ok. Please help

Noises are very hard to diagnose without actually hearing it. If it sounds like it is coming from around the tranny you may have a cracked flex plate. The flex plate is bolted onto the end of the crankshaft and is between the engine and transmission. It connects the crankshaft to the torque converter of the transmission. It also has a gear around it that the starter uses to turn the engine over. Have you noticed the starter sounding different when you start your car. A cracked flex plate will cause that or you may have a faulty starter causing your sound. Flex plates get cracks around the bolts that hold it to the crankshaft and can make a clicking noise. You may be able to remove the cover off of the bottom of the bell housing of the transmission and inspect it. Look for cracks or rust trails which is evidence of a crack. Not sure if you will be able to see far enough up in there or not. Rotate the engine around a little so you can get a look all of the way around it. It could be an engine or valve train noise also. Noises can ressonate through other components and make it hard to pinpoint. You may need to get some kind of stethoscope to help locate it.

When the fly wheel is bad does it knock

Yes they can make a loud knocking noise, this only applies to automatic transmission flywheels known as "Flex Plates" the noise is caused by the Flex Plate being cracked.

Turn key five or six times nothing then it fires up no problem sometimes you get in it starts up first turn of the key the ignitions not loose

Hello! There are several know causes for this fault...# 1...As you face the engine...On the front drivers side is the battery distribution block...The ground connection on the fender is not touching bare metal...Disconnect, sand area replace connection...# 2 tighten battery connections on the distribution block...# 3 (and for your sake I hope this isn't the problem) The flex plate...The flex plate is what connects the engine to the automatic transmission...It has a toothed ring on the outer edge for the starter motor to engage...They are known to break, crack or loose teeth...Take the vehicle to an authorized service center to have the flex plate examined...An inspection plate can be removed to view the flex plate...

NOISY FLEX PLATE, KEEPS CRACKING AROUND MOUNT ING SCREWS (3) , WELDED UP CRACKS AND REPLACE SCREWS, IN A WEEK STARTS GETTING NOISY AGAIN WE HAVE WELDED THESES CRACKS 3 TIME NOW, HAVE REPLACED NEW FLEX...

sounds like it is incorrect flex plate
for bolts to keep coming loose i wouldsay the bolt threads in end of crank have been streched thru over tightening
you may be able to redrill and tap these
to do this you will have to pull engine
you alsocannot weld craCKS IN A FLEX PLATE
FLEX PLATES flex THEREFORE WELDING IS A WASTE OF TIME
WELDING WILL ALSO PUT FLEX PLATE OUT OF BALANCE WHICH AGIAN WILL CAUSE CRACKS AND PROBABLY WAS THE ORIGINAL PROBLEM TO START WITH
