Question about 2002 Jeep Wrangler

2002 TJ 4.0 shuts off at 65

My problem started with the check engine light blinking, then at 65 MPH it shut down. Would start right back up and drive fine, but would not get over 65 without shutting off. When I got home I unplugged then re-plugged my throttle sensor. Check engine light stayed on, but still won't run over 65. Is the problem as simple as it seems?

Try changing the fuel filter. Must be starving for fuel at higher speeds.

Go to nearest autoparts supplier and they usually will scan for codes free of charge, and point you in right direction of part(s) required to correct the problem . If your still not sure, write down the codes and get back to me/us.

Engine check light showed up when I drove at 65 mph

I would recommend having the computer checked for trouble codes next. The codes will help point a mechanic in the right direction for what to test.

A lot of possible causes - have you checked for trouble codes (DTCs)? If no codes, given the age it could be in the fuel delivery system (for example, fuel pump stopping either due to an intermittent electrical problem at the ignition switch or in the wiring such as corroded connectors).

91 Geo Storm Gsi running just fine, one day I lost power driving 65, check engine light came on and was flickering, mph arm going up and down but didn't die then. Then it was ok.That happened 2 times...

Most engines don't fair well under extreme heat. It's apparent you might have some electrical issue's. Your rpm's or mph arm going up and down could be faulty speed sensor would cause arm problem. I think you may have more than one problem, the car shutting off is due to engine over-heating. Check cooling system-thermostat, water pump, radiator, engine fans and coolant temp sensor and fan relay's. It could be as simple as blown radiator hose.

If a dealer can not fix it, we can't guess at the unknown

Now your involved with a dealer leave it there, until
they solve it. Somebody has to stay with it, to a successfull
conclusion.

You could ask around about repair shops that are good at
diagnostics & drivability issues

Well the on/off method sometimes is not Correct.I would suggest you to take it to an auto part store and have them scan it for you for free and they will tell you the exact code with the OBD2 then you can start from there.Good luck

The RPM of Nissan Altima stays high when drive over 65 MPH.

No....the rpms differ from engine to engine and from manufacturer to manufacturer. RPM's are always higher at higher speeds.

Well 145K is alot of miles, catera's are not that reliable especially after 100K. It sounds like you could have multiple issues but take it to a mechanic asap before it becomes unfixable.
