The correct method to reset is to use a code reader as disconnecting the battery corrupts the cpu program. Try that and see if it improves.

Battery keeps dieing

I would test alternator again but I have always had trouble with the machine test so a good way to test is to start the car and disconnect the positive cable from the battery, if the alternator is good the car will stay running, if it is bad the car will die.

Aveo battery and brake light came on

sound like alternator faulty or drive belt could be slipping due to broke drive belt tensioner, check make sure alternator wires not damaged or disconnected. with the engine idling check alternator voltage out put at battery with digital volt meter, should be 13.5 - 14.5 volts.if not alternator faulty.also check alternator fuse before replacing alternator.turn off radio first before disconnecting negative battery cable,to remove alternator have the auto parts store check it out alternator before buying a new one.reason i say turn off radio first if you dont you will lock it out when you disconnect the negative battery cable.

  • 1.Disconnect the battery by turning the positive terminal bolt in a counterclockwise direction with a 10mm socket wrench. Disconnect the terminal nut on the alternator by turning it counterclockwise with an open-ended wrench. Store the terminals away from the battery.

  • 2

Disconnect the Intrigue's serpentine fan belt by pressing on the tension pulley arm firmly then working the belt out from underneath the idle pulley. Release the tension pulley arm so the belt will have enough slack to be removed from the alternator pulley wheel.

  • 3

Remove the mount bolts by turning the nuts counterclockwise, holding the bolt head with a socket wrench. Slide the bolts out of the mount arms. Replace the alternator with a new unit by positioning it into the mount arms and sliding the bolts through the mount holes. Tighten all nuts securely.

  • 4

Replace the drive belt by wrapping the belt around the alternator pulley wheel then pressing on the tension arm to slide the belt back underneath the idle pulley. Release the arm and the belt will tighten to an automatic adjustment.

Reconnect the alternator's wiring harness connection by placing the terminal over the connection bolt and securing the nut clockwise with a small wrench. Reconnect the battery by turning the terminal bolt clockwise with a 10 mm socket.

The battery light stays on and the idle is high. Replaced the alternator 2 weeks ago and its doing it again. Is there anything else it could be or just a bad alternator?

You might have a short to ground somewhere that is draining the battery and preventing the alternator from charging it up. This is also called a "parasitic battery drain". To find it, you need to turn off the car and turn all accessories off. All lights inside and out should be off. Make sure everything you can think of is turned off. Then disconnect the negative cable clamp from the negative battery terminal. Hook up a 12V test light between the disconnected cable end and the negative battery post. If the light glows brightly, you have a short somewhere. Now, with the light still glowing, start removing fuses one at a time until the light goes out. The short is on a circuit that is protected by the last fuse you pulled before the light went out. the owner's manual should list what circuits are associated with the fuse. the problem is in one of those circuits or systems. You'll have to disconnect each piece of equipment protected by that fuse one at a time until you find the problem. Hint: it is probably in the circuit of something that has already failed to operate. For example, if your stereo has been "dead" for a while, the short may be in the wiring that powered it.

How do I get my traction off light and ABS light to go off?

When certain systems (anti-lock brakes, traction control or air bag) detect a problem (like low system voltage due to a bad alternator) the computer sets a fault code and turns on the light. The light often will not go out until the fault code is cleared from the computer's memory.
Try disconnecting the negative terminal from the battery for 1 minute and then re-installing it. This will erase the computer's memory and erase the fault codes set when the alternator failed. If the two lights come back on, that means that there is a problem in the systems (they are inter-connected). Check all the fuses to make sure that a fuse which might supply power to these two systems did not blow out when the alternator failed. Replace any bad fuses. If the lights still stay on, you will need to take it to a mechanic for diagnosis and repair.

Alternator and electrical problems ive changed alternator twice, now clicking noise under dash bat. light comes on and dash lights flicker

check all battey connections and system grounds. Check that the battery has 12v and holds properly when load tested. To check charging system, don't disconnect any battery leads...put a volt meter across the battery. when running, you should have at least 12.9v and volts should not drop. (usual reading is generally at or near 13) at idle with all accessories on voltage should be close to that as well. voltage should not exceed 14.Also make sure that drive belt is not slipping.
