Question about 1992 Honda Accord

1 Answer

Transmission not shifting on its own.

Rev is working. When i put the car in first (auto trans) it will stay in first untill i shift to d4 then it will go into 3rd and stay there. If i start out from d4 the car will take off in 3rd gear and remain throughout. I went under the hood and diconnected the two selenoid plugs on the trans and when i go in the car and put it in 1st the car will take off in second gear. When i shift to d3 or d4 it will shift up to 4th.

Check the shift solenoids by using a OHM METER .the both solenoid connectors has 2 terminals 1 and 2 .take ohm meter measure terminal 1 resistance to body ground it should be 14-30 ohms.if less or more replace it.then number 2 terminal to ground.do both the connectors that you disconnect.they should be 14-30 ohms.if less or more replace them.if they check out good .your valve body in transmission is going have to be removed.

check the instillation of the transmission shift cable, it needs to be adjusted so that the pawl on the trans case has a full range of motion-put the shifter in neutral, and manually put the pawl in the neutral position (disconnect the cable0-then connect the cable again and bolt it into position.

if you drive the car with the shifter in d1 and while driving down the road move the shifter to up shift the foward gears individually if the rpms drop every time you up shift you know your trans shifted if this allows you to go through all gears you have an ecu problem if the car still doesnt shift you have a trans problem and would need to take the car to a transmission shop

It seems that the trans is slipping. The smell is from excess trans flood. If Trans is over filled, it can rupture seals and cause leaking that can get on the exhaust and burn.
