Everything has power, but engine will not crank or even click when attempted to start.

My 1989 mercury cougar started fine a few days ago, i had to replace the battery due to power loss, when i did, i tryed to start it, and it didnt even crank, there was plenty of power, but it didnt crank. So i put the old battery back in, and charged it using a plug in charger, and there was power, but still didnt crank? there isnt an anti-theft system that i know of, and there is fuel and the fuel pump is not tripped, and working. Everything else has power but when i go to start it, it doesnt even click.

I have a 99 Mercury cougar 2.5 v6 manual transmission and i have a no crank no start issue, the car just stalled out one day and wouldn't start back up so Ive tested the clutch switch plug with a test...

Do you know what a wiring diagram is ? Free here http://www.bbbind.com/free-tsb Enter vehicle info. Under system click on engine , then under subsystem click on starting . Click the search button ,then the blue link . B + power comes from the ignition switch through the starter relay diode ,through the coil side of the starter relay .

My 1995 mercury cougar xr7 in the morning the fuel pump runs along time like a couple of minutes befor it shuts off so it will crank, but 5 hours later it cranks up fine.what is the problem?

Can you be more clear? The pump only runs for 2 seconds until the engine starts cranking and then it stops immediately when cranking stops.

I replace one of the blue 20amp fuse under the hood number 40 or 41.... Then mine started but, now the car is not running like it should... The motor runs ruff and sounds like it has a tap in the motor... Hope this helped

A few weeks ago i started my 84 S10. It normally starts fine. After i turned it off i tried to turn it back on and it wont do anything. everything works like the radio and everything. When i turn the key...

This sounds like you may have a starter issue. Have someone in the vehicle to try cranking and hold it in this position. You go underneath and attempt to tap the starter with a small hammer to see if it frees it up. If it does, replace your starter. Let me know if you need anything further.

Mercury cougar wont start

My first suspicion is the battery connections may be lose and also the battery may now be run down. If you take the terminal connections off and clean them and the terminal posts so that they are shiny clean and charge the battery you can try again. If the car starts, that was the problem. If it doesn't, then look for the starter solenoid and lose connections there and also look toward the starter next. A tech with a volt meter can run independent checks and narrow it down further but having good connections and a charged battery are necessary to get started with the other tests.

My mercury cougar won't start, all lights are ok

Take another look at the battery, clean the posts and the terminal ends. Charge the battery, or jumpstart from another vehicle, and allow it to run for 5 to 10 minutes. Shut the vehicle off and see if it will start again. If not you will most likely need to replace the battery.

Car won't start. It turns over and clicks fast, but nothing. Dad says it may be the starter, but I don't know where the starter is to tap it to see. Can you help?

Right side, down under. You say it turns over? if it turns over, the starter is working. Turning over and cranking are the same thing. It either CRANKS or it DOES NOT CRANK. or it CRANKS but wont RUN. Explain things in these terms so theres no confusion.

89 cougar cranks when key is off

There are 2 connections on the solinoid the main positive feed.(thick wire from battery)which will sometimes have other wires connected with it and a thinner wire(approx. 3mm thick) with a push on lug from the ignition relay.Check that none of those wires are in the wrong place.it will cause what you are describing

99 cougar won't start

Is the clicking sound from under the dash or under the hood? Does the engine crank over?
